Places to find .jpg cover art?
« on: December 13, 2015, 05:13:23 pm »

I guess this is the right forum?

Where do you find .jpg files of cover art to complete your libraries? I am, of course, speaking specifically about cover art that wasn't found in the JRiver database. I was successful finding a few Mercury Living Presence covers with just a simple search on the internet. Are there any websites devoted to cover art that allow files to be copied?

My normal go-to source for album art is google images with a string like:

queen a night at the opera cover

When that fails to find me decent cover art, I go to www.albumartexchange.com

There are probably more sources, but that's what I do and it's worked for 99%+ of my cover art.

I've found https://fanart.tv/music-fanart/ a good port of call.

They work to strict standards, so while you may not find what you're looking for. However, what you do find at least displays with decent resolution.

I've gone back to google ... you can copy the code below and under manage links paste it in .. on selecting tracks for an album and clicking on the link bar it will search on albu artist and album but at 1600x1200px or bigger -- if there are no hits you can change the size down until you find one. (in google it will say larger than 2MP and hit the little arrow on the right of this to widen the search)

This was not mine and I'd like to give credit where its due, but frankly I forgot who posted this .. so thx to the creator of this :)

on the link bar right click then manage links=>Add=>paste from clip board

You can limit this to audio by changing the media type if desired

Code: [Select]

Cover Art

1

https://www.google.com

https:////www.google.com//search?as_st=y&tbm=isch&as_q=Hexify([Album Artist (auto)] [Album])&safe=images&tbs=isz:lt,islt:xga,iar:s,imgo:1&biw=1097&bih=567

[Media Type]=[Audio],[Image],[Video]

I found that Tidal (or Wimp) has some high quality cover art (1280x1280). Here is the code for a Google search of Tidal that you can paste into Manage Links:

Code: [Select]

Tidal Cover Art

1

https://www.google.com

https:////www.google.com//search?as_st=y&tbm=isch&as_q=Hexify([Album Artist (auto)] [Album])&safe=images&as_sitesearch=wimpmusic.com&e&as_st=y&tbm=isch&tbs=isz:l,imgo:1

[Media Type]=[Audio]

I am searching for a possibility to get better cover art from Audible.
The default image is about 300px and the url is something like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/<someRandomId>._SL300_.jpg
If you change the "300" to any number between 1-500 you get the same cover art in the specified resolution. Changing a number higher than 500 results in getting the 500px version. While 500px is certainly not enough, it is definiteley better than 300px.

I also found out that there are several reverse image search engines that you can use to find a better version of an existing cover art you already have. You can use Google, TinEye and Yandex. In my experience Yandex gives the most results. It also displays the varying resolutions on top of the site, so you are able to select the version you want relatively fast.
