I want to listen to my library out of the home

Not the most tech savvy guy. I use JRemote inside the home without issue, but would like to access my library while driving or in other folks homes. In simple language, can this be done? drawbacks? My music laptop is on a wireless network using a Windows 7 connected via RT-N66U router.
