Upsampling issue
« on: August 07, 2016, 03:44:32 am »

I have a three year old DELL inspiron 3521 (i7) laptop with 8gb of ram and SSD
My DAC is iFi iDSD Micro
When upsampling to DSD I can do it with no problems up to 4X native but in 8X the music is playing with gaps
Also trying to upsample to DXD up to 768KHz there is quite nasty distortion

I am using the largest buffers in MC22 and in the ifi's ASIO driver, and of course memory play back.
Up to 384 everything is OK.

I want to mention that in some earlier versions of the MC21 I dont remember having this issue in the PCM/DXD domain. I think its something that occurred the last months with MC21 and is also the same with MC22.

Anyone using the iDSD Micro having the same issues?

Thanx

Do I need more RAM?

Sounds like the CPU isn't fast enough.

Thank you!
Excuse my delayed answer!

OK may be the CPU is not fast. If so why I am able to upsamle to 8x dsd in foobar with no issues?

You might try the SoX resampling option in MC22 because I think it's a little lighter on the CPU.

Just for grins you might run the benchmark and post your results here:  Help > Benchmark > Run Benchmark

Just in case this is the issue... I generally try to use the smallest buffers that work reliably, not the largest.  YMMV.

Brian.

This is the Benchmark after i have changed to some smaller buffers and started having dropouts in 4X dsd too:

It's a reasonable machine, not slow or fast.

Thnx for your answer!
What does this mean regarding the upsampling?

For now I switched to the minimum buffers and I play bit perfect, with no issues of course!
May be, in those not so powerful machines the bit perfect way is the optimal even though some DACs benefit from upsampling!
Any opinions on that?
