manually altering gain level for music files

is it possible to manually alter gain levels for individual music files.  i have been applying replay gain, but i am finding that this doesn't always work so well and there is the odd track that sounds noticeably louder.  so i would like to alter these files manually.

Nick,

you can't manually alter the replay gain value once it has been calculated by an audio analysis.

If you have very odd files you can always use the media editor (Tools/More Tools/Media Editor) and use Transform/Adjust volume... BUT
1 - It'll alter your media file
2 - If you're editing an APE or any other losless file it's ok but if you're editing a low bitrate mp3, wma, ogg etc. you will certainly loose a bit quality wise

Editing the volume of a file should only be the last thing to do (on  lossy compressed files)

Yes, it would be great if we could alter the calculated levels for replay gain.

It would be good to set ALL tracks of an album to the same value.

Im guessing here, but the format data in the properties pane for my audio files in MC look something like this:

ID3v2 Tag: (4293 bytes)
  GEOB: <unknown data type>
 COMM (Tool Name): Media Center
 COMM (Tool Version): 9.0.129
 COMM (Replay Gain): -16.62559
 COMM (Peak Level): 1.00000
 TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Solo..): At The Drive-In
 TRCK (Track number/Position ..): 3
 TBPM (BPM (beats per minute)): 108
 TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): Relationship of Command
 TIT2 (Title/songname/content..): One armed scissor
 TCON (Content type): Rock
 TYER (Year): 2001
 COMM (Rating): 3
 COMM (Intensity): 4

Although it cant be done in MC, Im guessing that another tag editor would allow you to edit the Replay Gain tag value. My old version of RealJukebox would seem to allow this, but I havent tried it. I dont know how it might affect MC though - if youre going to try it please try on a backed up test file.
