Author Topic: Why can't I get MC22 to play DSD files via DLNA to Denon Receiver?  (Read 4939 times)

I've been trying to setup MC22 to play DSD files from a Denon AVR-X3300 receiver.  I've followed the instruction on setting this up as provided in the Wiki pages but to no avail.  The receiver sees the Media Server and plays other files just fine but DSD (.dsf) files are a no go.

Furthermore, I installed oShare and it plays all my DSD files flawlessly.

Help?

Please download the DMRA from my sig, run it, and post the renderer report here..

Here you go.  Not sure if I did it correctly so let me know if you were expecting more information.  Thanks!

Ok. Thanks for the report. It does confirm that the Denon does play DSD.

What settings do you have for Dsd in MC? Are you playing Original, or transcoding?

Original.  All I get is a tv screen size album cover art.  I also tried checking Bitstream DSD but all I get is static/hiss from the speakers.

Ok. So is it true that when you push a DSD track to the Denon via oShare it plays Music, whereas if you push the exact same track to the Denon via MC it plays noise? Do you confirm that it is noise rather than just silence? With Bitstream DSD turned off or off?

No, I'm navigating through the Denon menus to find the media server.  Then I select the .dsf file I want to play.  So, I suppose I'm pulling the data?

If I put my ear to the speaker there is a very faint hiss.

Ok, I got it working.  I thought I had unchecked Bitstream DSD.  After I did that, it worked!  Now, based on another thread, I take it I can't "push" DSD from my PC or JRiver Remote to the Denon, correct?

If it can play a track format in pull mode, it should also be able to play that in push mode.

For whatever reason, I'm not able to push DSD (.dsf) files to the Denon.  How would I setup MC22 to allow conversion of these files when I push them to the Denon but also keep FLAC and WAV files in their native format when playing those?  In other words, I want to convert the .dsf files but not FLAC or WAV files.

Andrew, you actually added a DSD file to WhiteBear for me and I could push it to the Denon from that, but not from JRiver.  This never went anywhere over a year ago.  I believe it could probably be fixed with a mime type change (I didn't look back at the thread - but you seemed to have some ideas) from JRiver but they apparently don't feel it is there problem - it's Denon's.  I have no idea where the problem lies but it seems to me this will never be fixed.

Are you able to make a WireShark capture of your LAN traffic at the time that MC tries to push the track to your renderer?
