How to restore library files without MC backup
« on: March 02, 2017, 09:30:44 am »

Hi All-

I have made a grave error and wondered if anyone could help.

I used the Rename/Copy function to copy all my (17,000) songs to a new NAS by replacing the drive letter to the new NAS share. I used the Copy/update DB pointer option and it chugged all night and copied the files, but my playlists (several hundred) are now hopelessly scrambled. Here is the grave error part...I do not have a good backup of the DB.

I have a daily backup of my machine on Windows Home Server and should be able to restore the DB files, but need to know what folders/files to restore. Even then, I will have a DB that points to the old drive letter, so how would I update the DB info to change the drive letter? Folder tree is identical on the 2 drives.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I'm sure many of your thoughts revolve around why no backup and that is a fair question...no good excuse. :)

Thanks,
Andy

Update:
I decided to restore the entire Library folder from 2 days ago, then used the Rename/Copy utility with the Update Pointer option to change the drive letter.
All seems to be fine now. Maybe this will help someone else.

Thanks
