TV REcording Crashes MC22
« on: March 10, 2017, 08:32:02 am »

Hello,

I've been using TV recording for several years  and since  yesterday each time I try to record (now or on schedule) a particular channel MC22 crashes with no message.
This occurs specifically on French  DVB-T ARTE Channel, I've tried 4 others and they record well only ARTE caused this crashed. Before yesterday I used to record this channel regularly without trouble.
It seems he crashes after creating the working directory (empty) and an empty .ts file.

Other information :
I am using version 22.0.77. I tried also with the latest update.
I use a DVB-T  AF9015 BDA  device.
I have plenty of disk space.
I can watch the channel  only the recording crashes

Regards

Philippe

Please turn on logging (Help > Logging..., check the box "Output to a log file").  Go to TV Options, Advanced, and set "Logging verbosity" to 2.  Restart MC and attempt to record on the channel.

After the crash, restart MC and go immediately to Help > Logging... and click "Report problem...".  Email me the zip file.  yaobing at jriver dot com

If the file is too big for email, try uploading it to a file sharing service and send me a link.

Some inexplicable error showing in the log.  The only thing that might be a flag is that the channel uses H.264 video and E-AC3 audio.  Do other channels (that do not crash) also use these formats?

How can I check that ?

I didn't hear any information on changes in their broadcast. up to last week it was working and I recorded 1 or 2 programs per week of this channel for months.
Should I try to log short  recording of channel that works for you to compare ?

Do you remember the time when this problem started?  Did it correspond to a time when you installed a newer version of MC?  If so, does rolling back MC to an older version help?

Yes that may help.

Hi,

I did further investigation and logging

Finally It seems coming with latest update of MC.  When I try with MC22.0.54 (previous stable version I had) it works.
What did you change since???
So to help, I've attached 2 loggings :
+ JRiver Log 2017-03-15 14-31-04  V22.0.77 1 record OK and 1 record Failed.zip:
on this I did a short  record from one channel  and then  a failed recording trial of the channel that crashes.

+ JRiver Log 2017-03-15 14-37-21  V22.0.54 1 record OK.zip
on this I succesfully did a short  record from the channel that crashes with V22.0.77

Hope it will help you
Regards

I 'll send you file via email (too big)

Thanks for the logs.  I see exactly the same behavior in the new log.  Unfortunately that also means the crash dump file still was not providing useful info.  There was an important change in build 77 which fixed a bug in TV recording in transport stream format.  The problem you are experiencing may be a side effect of that change.  I have looked over all the changed code but could not identify anything that could cause a crash.

I will post a revised DLL with some changed logging today so we can figure out why there is a crash in that one channel.

By the way, the channel that did not cause a crash (2 France 2) and the one that did (7 Arte) both use AC3Plus audio and H264 video.  So that was not the problem.

Please test the following DLL with the latest build available on MC22 board (build 81).

1. Install build 81.
2. Set TV logging verbosity to 2.
3. Download, unzip, and copy the DLL into MC installation folder.

The crash occurred when MC tried to copy a block of data into a memory buffer.  That is inexplicable. Maybe your computer memory is defective?

In any case, please try one more time with this new DLL.

Maybe  but it works with same channel, previous version, or with other channel. If it was a memory issue it would be more random/inconsistent than always with the same channel and the same version. I guess that with 8mb of memory the program do noit run systematicaly in the same bank.
I will try the new DLL and let you know.

I updated the above DLL link with a newer version.  If you have already downloaded the DLL, please discard it and download again.

Thanks for testing and sending in logs.

You latest log still shows an inexplicable crash  :'(

Out of desperation, I made some changes.  The new DLL will reflect those changes.
