JRiver MC22 for Linux sound quality
« on: May 09, 2017, 04:59:41 pm »

Hi, do you think the quality of audio is better on linux? Does JRiver Work Better?
I'm doing some listening to see if JRiver on Linux 'sounds better than its Windows version: I'm using now Ubuntu Studio 17.04 without any particular optimizations (and I do not think so) and  Windows 10 LTSB (hand-optimized with Fidelizer and Process Lasso).
After some listening sessions I can say that I do not know listening differences: sometimes it seemed to me a wider scene at other times exactly the same kind of listening. Classical, jazz, rock and pop tracks. I also used DSP to make upsampling using SOX and I have to say that in this case the difference in my 2 system I perceived: Ubuntu probably in this case is better.
The pc I used is assembled by me with intel i5 6500, Asus Z170M-Plus, 16 gb, ssd for system (I'm going to replace with M.2), 3tb internal music harddisk for music, corsair rm750x power supply (silent, practically fanless ). The dac I use is a Gustard X20u, connected to a Rega Brio R and B & W cm6 s2.
What were the impressions of listening to who moved from JRiver Windows to Linux?
Thank you

Honestly? Using MC to output bit-perfect sound (with no DSP) on Windows, Mac and Linux, to my ears, sounds exactly the same on all three OSes with the same DAC and speakers. Which isn't a bad thing at all, in my opinion.
