tags versus library
« on: July 05, 2017, 02:10:38 pm »

I want to be sure my tags are up to date, but don't want to copy tags into all 37,000 files unless the tags are wrong. Is there a way to simply check consistency without copying unless needed? Copying, even if there is no change, is flagged as a change to the file and so my backup software (Chronosync) re-backsup everything, which is a real PITA.

Thanks

Do an experiment:  Choose a file or two that you are certain has up to date tags.  Now, look at the modification date in the file system.  Finally, do Library Tools > Update Tags (from library) on that file and check the date again.  Did it change?

If so, you'll need some other method.  If not, you can just mass update them all, knowing that it will only write out changed tags.

I don't know of any way of verifying tags inside the files; I only know how to update them.
