Signal Lock
« on: September 21, 2017, 08:57:48 am »

I am experiencing issues with just a couple of my channels that will not lock onto the signal and record or let me watch the channel. I am on Comcast Digital and these are HD channel and are local channels and not premium or on demand. I am using a cable card to record. I have recorded on the channels many many times before and this seems to be a recent development.

The channels play fine on all the cable boxes in the house. I think the channels have somehow been marked copy protected like HBO and the premium channels are but I don't see any way in MC to see if this is true.

Also, don't think it is a signal level problem as it is literally just two channels, ABC and NBC.

Any suggestions or tips?

Thanks.

What is your tuner brand and model?

Have you tried rebooting the tuner and PC ?

The tuner is a Ceton 4 PCI w/ cable card. I have rebooted and also pulled and re-inserted the cable card. I have disconnected and reconnected the cable connection to the card.

I am going to try and call Comcast tonight but don't think that will amount to much.

Really, first and foremost, I am looking to see if there is a way to tell if the channels I am having a problem with have been tagged as copy protected and thereby causing the problem. Anyone know how to do this within MC?

thanks.

I don't have the PCI ceton, but I do have the network ceton. On my system I can go to the Ceton "webpage" for showing tuner status, cable card status, firmware version, log... Not sure how you access on your system. You can manually tune the channels from this webpage then at the bottom it shows the copy protection status of that channel. Here is what it looks like on my machine:

Thank you. I forgot that Ceton provided a diag program. I found the same IP page that you showed. The channels that I am having a problem with are showing copy protection as 'None' rather than copy free. So, think this is a Comcast issue.

Sigh.

I think you should be seeing "Digital Lock" = 1 on that page (yours is 0). If you tune to a channel that is working, what do you see for Digital Lock?

Also check on the TUNER tab (next to status). What is your Signal To Noise Level on the bad channel vs good channel? Good number would be 38-39 dB.
