Feature Improvement for XML export
« on: June 25, 2003, 06:21:56 am »

9.1 is solving the majority of my issues for managing photos, but I have one more (hopefully minor) request:

When I archive my photos and burn them onto a CD or DVD, I'd like to also burn a backup of the tags in a plain-text readable format so that they are always readable, no matter what program exists in the future (well, assuming the CD is still readable...).

XML Export of the library is close to what I need, but since it always outputs the entire library, it is overkill.  So, three requests:

1) It would be nice if there was an XML export (same command as it is today) that acted on the selection instead of the entire library.

2) (I haven't tested this, so it might already work.) It would be even better if the output included the EXIF tags in their entirety as well (that way we can feel confortable using random programs to edit the image, since the EXIF tags will be backed up).

3) (This is much lower priority.) Finally, it would be really nice if it was possible to re-read the xml for a file and restore its tags (perhaps just a command that took the selection, asked for an XML file, and looked for matches to re-load tags from) so that there is a way to restore lost information from the backup.

Thanks!
