I can confirm the "CD swapping" hang - a quick workaround is to change the view pane by clicking on a Playlist or the Library then changing the CD. Clicking on the CD drive icon will cause a refresh. But it is an irritant and will need to be fixed before letting 9.1 loose on the general public - MMJB, WM9 and EZCD 6 Audio Center are all very quick at spotting a new CD inserted.

An impression too - my CD drive seems to be "revving up" much more under the beta than under the MC9.0 while playing a CD. Sounds as though it's spinning at around 20 speed.

Smartlists seem to be a bit flaky at present too - using Playlist under Rules seems to have no effect and the "info bar" showing the Smartlist filters etc bears little relation to the Rules I've set.

Hi,

Now I can't see the ZONE information in 9.1 Beta.

Other inprovements need getting use to, but generally good.

I believe that you can use smartlists for such things. I have revently moved over to smartlists for a few similar lists, to minimize the number of view schemes in my media library.

Buckaroo - Thanks for the advice.  I'm a new user to MC - just a couple of weeks now - and I can't really see the difference between a smartlist and a view scheme.  It just looks the same to me but in a different place on the tree.  Won't I still have the same problem - i.e. loads of smartlists that I can't group logically?

Can someone enlighten me.

Playlist based view schemes are broken in the current beta, it'll prolly be Monday evening before it's fixed, but the basic theory is that you can create smartlists which will fetch dynamic data for you (all songs you've never played, for example) then you can use view schemes to call up this dynamic data and display it according to the view scheme rules you setup.

Unless I missed something, a playlist based view scheme is limited to "playlist groups" (which is what you want anyways I think). To group them logically, start by right-click on playlists and choose "add playlist group". That'll get you rolling and I reckon you'll be OK from there, pretty intuitive once you get started.

Record sound is broken.  here is about a 20 second gap before it starts recording.  MC appears to hang and does nothing for the 20 seconds then suddenly kicks into life...

In fact sound recorder is completely broken!  It forced OGG recording even though the options were set up for VBR mp3.  Please can this be fixed as this is one of the functions I use the most for mastering tracks to be recorded to CD.

Cheers

In a View Scheme you have the option of showing Artist/Album/etc info if you want. A Smartlist just puts everything in one long list.

Well, currently you can still create Playlist Groups by right-clicking on the Playlists node. Hopefully View Scheme Groups will make a comeback.

Bug: Changing list styles when viewing filtered library items in a view scheme resets the view scheme filter to  <all>. You have to pick your filter settings again.

Bug: If a music file does not have a date and is imported into the Library, it is assigned a Year of 1899.

You can see this behavior by removing an music file that does not have a date from your library and then reimporting it. The Month and Day will remain blank, but the year becomes 1899.

I see this doing import as well as using King's chartfinder tool. Can this bug please get fixed?

Since 200, Media Center has been incredibly slow. I have turned off visualizations of any kind. I have streamlined the view schemes.
It still takes about 10 seconds to "Add to Playing Now" and the CPU use jumps to 100% during that 10 seconds. If there is a song playing, it starts skipping during that 10 seconds. For every song added, I go through this scenario and as long as MC is playing music, I can do nothing else or the skipping starts.

If it helps to narrow it down, 199 was very stable and CPU thrifty.

There's some wierdness going with the warning prior to a big tag change process.

I replaced a 240 files in explorer, then used the "update tags from library" tool. MC went straight into its "updating" mode without any warning dialogues, worked away for several minutes, then popped a dialogue warning me I was about to make changes to tags on 240 fles and this may take a while, I clicked OK, then get another "updating in progress" box. Job finished ~10 seconds after clearing the warning.

seemed odd.

Analyzing files still seem to have problems.

I am not able to analyze all my mp3s at one go. It will always terminate after a while (no fixed numbers, sometimes after 100+ songs, sometimes about 500+ songs) with the message that it has encountered errors for the past few songs. But if I highlight those few files and analyze them later, it will work. This is quite irritating as I would like to be able to analyze my whole mp3s collections while I am sleeping and that is pretty much impossible for now.

Also, sometimes (just twice I think) MC would not be able to play my songs saying that it has encountered error and then it will stop playback. After that, it will be impossible to play any mp3s at all until I restart MC. Anybody who faces this problem?

Bugs
1.      Visualization mode normal or less: characters are not readable.

2.      Volume slider will not respond to cntr- command if volume is above 84% (same as in 9.0.x). This problem only shows up using the ASIO interface.

3.      CDs created with MJ can t be played on a computer (buffering..), not with MJ or any other player (windows or linux), it was playable on an ordinary player! Analyzing the CD shows that always the first 2 block of the wavefile are bad. Skipping those will result in playing the CD. I created an AudioCD on the same hardware using RealOne without any problems!!! DataCDs will work OK. Using MC together with different hardware works out ok. The used burner is a BENQ 48-16-48.

4.      The Now playing info window randomly shows title (artist) or title (album) info. The album info seems to have the higher priority, so only when no album info is present, the artist is displayed. It should be selectable or vice versa.

5.      Interrupted  streaming files causing MC to lock up (ASIO interface) and continue to play the last frame over and over.

6.      Closing MC will loose playlist position and playlist

7.      On a low bite rate mp3 (64k) and ASIO interface, MC switches down to 22050 bit instead 44100. This is usually not supported by ASIO. Setting a fixed bit rate does not correct this.

8.      ASIO error: playing one specific file causes MC to crash. Switching from ASIO to Wave out, the file plays ok. During switching around, it seems to me that the playback buffer is not flushed at the end of playback in ASIO mode, what would explain #5 above.
This bug occurs only with one mp3-file, all others play ok. If one likes to get it, please let me know.

Wishes

1.      All units should be expressed in db rather than %, since mixing linear and nonlinear units like db and % is very difficult to compare and last not least, db is the (professional) standard (eg. Peak level, volumne etc always appear as %)
2.      Volume slider should move in increments by db instead of %
3.      If  continuous mode and reshuffle is selected, I would like to have a reshuffle command thrown in after the last song starts, to prevent MJ to play the same sequence over and over again.
4.      During xfer to a device I would like have a ability to apply the replay gain value permanent to that file, since most devices do not support it.

Created video view "Album/Track#" with two columns: Album, then track # grouped by 100's (for season/ep#s).  The Track # column shows the correct track numbers for the files (e.g. if tracks for a given album are 100 through 900, I get entries in the Track # column for 100-199, 200-299, etc...), but when I click on anything but "all" in the Track # column, I don't see any tracks in the lower pane. I confirmed that  the tracks have the correct track numbers.

I would like to customize the playing view in top of MC 9.1.203. Doubleclicking the view doesn't work.
I very much like the artist name in this playing window.
I think it's very strange only to show trackname, albumname, playing time, kbps and file x of y information. I thinks it's a bug the view can't be changed.

hmmm...bugs everywhere...
some major ones:

album thumbnail view is playing some files that are not even in the view scheme. No, I don't know exactly why it's doing it but all I know is that it's getting real annoying. Does it on HairStyle too.

Using thumbnails is SLOW again. That's the only thing I can think of that's doing it. Using details view seems pretty zippy. And when I mean slow, I mean SLOW. I can go mow the lawn before it gets done with what it's doing.

Fonts. I mentioned this earlier but I'll do it agian. I really want to change the pane view font. I have to be able to see what I'm doing.

'Playlists' are not being shown in the pane view.

Not really too fond of the new tagging system...when it shows the pencil when selecting files. I have my tags already set. No need to use it. It's adding clutter when trying to play a song.

Would like to hide the tree on startup. With the new pane view, I need to hide the tree in order to see everything on a 640x480 res. I didn't have this problem the old way.

Would also like to show rated files at times. There's only 2 ways I can do this.
..1. being to make a new view scheme with rated songs only or
..2. use the view filter...
......well the view filter doesn't really filter anything. Everything is still there EXCEPT when I click on something that contains NOTHING.

Another thing would be the 'rating' column. It shows all values (?-5) unlike the others. I just want to see what's rated. Clicking on a value that isn't there just makes me click more.

Would also like view scheme groups back. Adding fields in the new pane system is great but when you use hairstyle, you have to go through each one to get to the track. To stop that, I need to make more schemes. Lots of schemes makes the tree cluttered (there's that word again)...so groups would solve this problem and many others.

Other than that, it's looking pretty good.

I installed the latest version Media Center 9.1.203 beta today.  When I sync with my IPOD, it no longer correctly maintains the artists.

The case is only for multiple artists on a single album.  In this case the artist is "multiple artists"  instead of the actual artist for that song.  If there is only one artist per album, it uses the correct artist for that song.

Note: I have windows XP.  I have 2 IPODs (new 30gb and old 20gb).  It's the same on both IPODs.

I cleared the library in Media Center and reimported everything, but it made no difference.  I formatted the IPODs, and it made no difference.
Thanks,

Randy

Randy,

This is due to a change in the 9.0.32 version of the plug-in that is used in this version of media center. SteveG posted in the IPOD SUPPORT thread about the change. Since the 203 version of the beta was posted, there have been mixed feelings about the behavior with respect to multiple artist albums.

Some love it, some don't (I'm in the second category), but the plug-in is behaving as expected.

Re: slow imports -  I noticed some strange behavior

While importing (80 GB library) MC9.1.203 took forever . .  . .  during which time it would import a handful of files then stall.
When it would stall, if I clicked elsewhere and removed focus from MC, upon returning focus the following occurred:
1- MC's 'Import' window would de-skin to a bare WinXP style window.
2- MC would re-skin the Import window after a short pause
3- MC would import another handful of files
4- MC would again stall
lather-rinse-repeat

This sometimes took several focus changes to occur, and/or some double-clicks on the 'Import' window when returning focus.

Hope this helps in the fix.

Minor issue:

Under W2k's Control Panel>Add/Remove Software, both MC9 and 9.1 are shown as installed, though only 9.1 is really.

BUG -- Each time I open MC for the first time, and the File Info Properties pane is open, and showing the Extended properties ... I only see Album Artist,  Composer, Keywords, Lyrics, & Notes.
BUT, when I minimize the properties pane and reopen it ... ALL of the Extended properties show up!

When you edit a tag it says:

Failed to Update the following.....

However the tag does get updated.

I just wanted to add that I've been experiencing the same problem that escaflo is having with analyzing audio.  It just dies... it starts reporting errors have a random number of MP3s.

Also, the MediaScheduler seems to have problems storing "Custom Tasks", they all seem to revert to "Start Media Center" (Also, it appears that the default custom tasks don't work with the path  C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\mjextman.exe.  I don't know whether it's an issue with just my computer or not. )

MC will kill (remove) mounted drives (windows 2k):

Using the rename files from properties function to rename files and answer yes to the question to remove any directories left behind empty will remove the entire mountpoint, if this partition is mounted as a directory somewhere in the dir-tree, even if the directory to be removed is not the base dir within the tree.
You have to setup the mountpoint once more to get access to your files. Note: all other files will remain on disk and show up again after remounting.

I'm having the same problems as well.  I hope this is fixed soon...
