For Android Users I stumbled across AirSpot - edit: seems to have been renamed HiFy.  Run it up on your Android Phone or Tablet (make sure you then put in your Spotify Account Details into AirSpot) and then your ANY Spotify App (PC/Andriod/iOS) will then see all DLNA and Airplay devices as a connectable Device... including MC's Zones if you have DLNA Turned On.

From what I can see all streams are pushed via your Phone/Tablet to the target device, so it will flatten the battery pretty quickly ... So now, I'm looking to find an Android device with Ethernet that I can plug onto my network that will then just run this as a Spotify to DLNA/Airplay "Bridge".  Nice.

You also get during playback the following in MC and some MC control over the stream being sent:
- Coverart, Some Meta Data (Title/Album)
- Volume Control Works from the Phone's Buttons and MC's GUI (they are synced)
- MC "Play/Pause" works,
- MC "Seeking" works
- MC "<<" takes you back to the start of the current stream/song,
- MC ">>" does nothing.
- MC "Stop" end the current song/stream and Spotify then plays the next track in the playlist.  You can not Stop the entire playlist, you need to do this from the Spotify App but this will only Pause the Track

NOTE: To Actually STOP and Drop the connection you need to in the Spotify app change the Device from MC’s DLNA Renderer back to the local device OR it will continue to try to push streams to MC.

...actually, we have one of these in the Kitchen.  Plugged in all the time and has a strong WiFi connection.  Working well as the bridge.  Even on "Extreme" setting it is only using 1411kbps, so no probs with WiFi.

Nice workaround to achieve functionalities often asked for.

Thanks for the heads up.

How is this different from running Spotify on your PC and routing audio to JRiver via the WDM Driver or WASAPI Loopback?

It also lets you push the stream to other DLNA and Airplay speakers.

Well I gave it a go and it works well, thanks.
I found with the WDM Driver and WASAPI Loopback that I would occasionally get pops and clicks.
But absolutely none with this method.

That's CD quality bit rate which makes sense because the app by default sends WAV as the codec.
I notice that LPCM and Ogg are the other options.
I'm assuming if set to LPCM then your Android device doesn't have to do any encoding, just simply decode the MP3 from Spoitfy to LPCM and send it.
JRiver reports the LPCM as "L16" which probably stands for Linear 16-bit.

I've been trying to get it working on a PC using an Android Emulator (BlueStacks etc).  It runs and finds Airplay devices but not DLNA ones.  I've shot an e-mail off to the developer.  It would be good to run on a PC as it is hardwired.

4yi, LPCM is identical to L16 and the same as WAV with a 44 byte prefix riff header chopped off it, so all of these formats are identical bitrate, and indeed identical audio byte stream.

FYI - heard back from the Dev.  These Andriod Emulators don't support multicasting as they are running in a VM without physical access to the NIC.

Looks like I'll see if I can pick up a small, cheap, Android Box, or at least an Ethernet OTG adaptor for an old phone if I can also run Power to it at the same time.

Edit - I'll actually see how I go just running it on my existing Galaxy View for now (as it's permanently powered and has a good WiFi connectivity).

That's what I'm doing now too with my Pixel 2 XL which has pretty good battery life. Using this app with the screen off doesn't seem to pull much power.

Hi, this is no longer my solution.
For quite some time I've been using the Windows Spotify app into JRiver via WASAPI Loopback.
My Android phone running the Spotify app can control the Windows Spotify app.
