kmmcd,
You're using a Microsoft live.com address. It may not work any longer.  Microsoft is blocking JRiver.

Microsoft is blocking JRiver.

Just FYI, Jim, I received an email from JRiver to my Hotmail address (which is actually an Outlook.com address these days) at 5:17pm yesterday, so a bit after midnight your time. It looks like Microsoft aren't blocking all emails.

I have a license for version 22. I just purchased an upgrade for version 24. Somewhere, while trying to do the upgrade, I messed up. I used the registration number for version 22, as sent to me in an email from J River, which didn't install the upgrade. Then I used a new registration number I got, and that won't install the upgrade either.

What do I do? Thanks.

Please read the first post in the thread.  You have an MC24 license that works with MC23 now, and will work with MC24 when releases are available (sometime in May).   We will send you an e-mail with instructions then.

I have installed MC 23, but I want to upgrade it to MC 24 now. Is this not possible? Can I use the restore utility, and if so, which registration number would I enter? I shouldn't have to wait until May to use something I paid for now. Thanks.

You can use the MC24 license with MC23.  Did you read the first post?

1.  Install MC23.0.102 or higher.
2.  Restore your MC24 license

Instructions for restoring a license are here:

Yes, I did read the first post.

I used the MC 24 registration code sent to me (I inputted it into the restore field), but I still have MC 23. I'm not quite sure what's going on; I've done this before with other versions and had no issues.

Thanks.

So, last question: Will I receive instructions to install MC 24 in May, and until then it will show that I am running MC 23?

just purchased the MC24 Master License upgrade.

Is there any reason to use that license for an existing MC23 installation or just keep it handy for when MC24 is released?

cheers

Jim can you make a clear statement of what benefits I would experience if I were to upgrade my Master licence from 23 to 24? I use Windows and Raspberry Pi to play media and an Ubuntu server. The posts seem more concerned with the logistics of deployment or installation than they are with what JRiver has done to justify further expenditure.

Suggestion.

As I told in the past, I work as ICT manager in  big company and we buy software from any vendor.
There are several license models but at the and of the story we are talking about buy license, rent license, subscriptions, maintenance, etc.

I see that JRiver releases a new version each year, more or less
There is a discount if you upgrade from a previous release
The fee for the upgrade is the same upgrading from a very old version or from the previous one.
Etc.

In my opinion, I would suggest JRiver to offer an annual maintenance fee that will let you to upgrade, more or less 20% of the cost of the license itself.
I buy the licence for MC100 in year-0 for 50$... if JRiver releases a MC101 during year-0, then I have the right to upgrade
In year-1 I can avoid to pay additional fee, but I do not have the right to upgrade
In year-2 JRiver release MC102, I can upgrade paying the maintenance ( 20% ) for year-1 and year-2 so 20%+20% = 20$
and os on
In any case, JRiver must fix problems on any version without additional fee, for 5 years.

I purchased the MC24 upgrade, and thought I had installed the license however when I click the present version ->check for upgrades i get the message that 'a newer version is available at a special pre-order price'. does this indicate that I need to take additional action to receive MC24 when it is available?
thank you.

Well, I did upgrade to 23.0.102 less than two months ago but was not advised of a new version coming.  And now I get this message about a new version available "at a price".  Somehow it seems you've adopted the Microsoft slogan "software as a service" and taken it a bit too far.

You purchased an MC23 upgrade three months ago.  It's good indefinitely.

By the time MC24 begins to appear, it will have been five months.

I'm sorry, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

I Have jriver 23 on 2 win10 machines & 1 win7 machine.  I purchased the upgrade to jriver 24 on March 1.  Today my jriver still shows ver 23 on the help->about page on all 3 machines.  i understand the upgrade won't come out for another 2 months but I am now getting the popup when I start jriver that tells me a new version is available for purchase. How can i tell if my pre-purchased license has been applied to all 3 machines?  I just went thru the license restore process and 2 machines (win7 and win10) say the license was installed but the 3rd machine (win10) says the license file is for a differnt product.  All are on 23.0.102.

In future, you don't need to do a licence restore on each PC. Just save the mjr file that is sent with the buy-button email, copy it to each PC, then double-clicking on it will install the licence. The mjr file is valid for 14 days after it is delivered. Much faster, more reliable, easier, and doesn't use up a MC Restore.

... but the 3rd machine (win10) says the license file is for a differnt product.  All are on 23.0.102.

You could be having a problem similar to the one I described here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114872.msg794447.html#msg794447

Hello,

I just purchased a Master License for MC 24 (I had a Master License for MC23 as well). I was able to register it on Windows, but when trying on a MAC, it states "Your License File is for a Different Product" (referring to the mjr file).  How do I get the master License onto my mac?

Thank you!

Purchased the 24 upgrade, so tried installing 23 over 20 which is the original version i purchased. Didn't bring all libraries or settings over to the new version so I reverted back to 20. I thought an upgrade from 20 to 23 would be pretty straightforward.

I also upgraded from 20 to 23 and it installed without any problems at all. Lucky thing too since I don't have a MC backup but use file copies (made with Windows Explorer) on external hard drives.  Not very practical to be sure, but very secure.

This brings up an related problem:  sometimes MC does not "see" perfectly good audio files.  They simply don't appear in the library and right-clicking on the file causes an error message, not playback.  Could be a problem with the file management function somehow.  Updating ID tags (for instance change disc# or some other meaningless change) fixes the problem and the file appears again the library.  Foobar, on the hand, never had any difficulty playing the "missing" tracks to begin with.  Likewise CUE files, they seem to disappear with alarming frequency for no obvious reason at all and that whole album will be missing from the library.  And let's not forget the unfortunate Microsoft action a few years ago that made WMA Lossless files inaccessible.  Personally, I converted all my WMA files to APE and hope they will "always" remain available to MC for playback.

Let this serve as a warning not to rely on MC backups, because files not recognized in the library will obviously not be backed up.

Purchased the 24 upgrade, so tried installing 23 over 20 which is the original version i purchased. Didn't bring all libraries or settings over to the new version so I reverted back to 20. I thought an upgrade from 20 to 23 would be pretty straightforward.

I upgraded to MC23 on Jan 14th of this year. I have been out of email access since the 1st of February. I just logged into MC23 and got the latest (102), and it says that there is a newer version. I know it won't be out for a couple of months. My license says MC23 for Windows. Is there a grace period for the upgrade to MC24?

Thanks

OK.  I have gotten rid of all the older versions of JRiver MC on my PCs.  However when I open MC I still get that little message in the Action window that tells me there is a newer version available for purchase. That makes me think that my MC does not realize I have already pre-purchased the newer version. Why am I still getting that message and/or how can I check that I am validated for the V24 when it becomes available?  Thanks.

Hi everybody,

A freshman user here, quite pleased so far w/what MC offers, also for a fair price. Two remarks at this point.

One toward the advancement of 'JRiver Inc.' so to speak:
IMO the software could convince many millions of users more by being less tech-savvy oriented and more intuitive in setup. I mean, there's plenty of audiophiles who are apt at the digital way of life, but i guarantee you there's ten times as many audiophiles who would like to use a music server the way we use our car: just turn the key and drive away. No need to know how the engine functions, or the suspension, just where the gas station is and some basic traffic rules...
Some tree-style diagrams in the user interface would already improve the learing curve, and many small details could make building a library less time consuming. Important issues to exactly the kind of public that would appreciate a music server to begin with.

The other is, i feel a bit awkward about seeing an upgrade available i have to pay for, the very first week after i purchased my master license, which a didn't even wait the thirty days for to decide. I just went right ahead and thought to get my license before investing all this time in learning to work it and in setting up and ripping a 10.000 item library (for starters).
I understand upgrades will always cause some kind of divide, but i'm a bit sorry i didn't sit out my thirty days now..

Anyway, nice to be here and see y'all occupying yourselves w/the advancement of great (computer based) audio. Will probably be back before long to stalk you w/my learning curve. Cheers!

Yuri, from Amsterdam (where they put mayonaise on their fries, yuck!)

How is purchasing MC23 for the first time and getting MC24 for free cheaper than the discounted upgrade price for existing users?

That’s not a very fair way to treat your loyal customers. Am I missing something here?

Did you find the link called Getting Started?  It should help.

If you bought a week ago, you have an MC24 license that also works with MC23.
