Extra tracks Appearing on iPod Classic

Some of the albums and tracks that I am trying to transfer to my iPod Classic are showing up as duplicates on the device, but not in the J River software. I can't find a way to stop this from happening, or a way to delete the duplicates from the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
