Audio Path question
« on: March 01, 2018, 11:49:30 am »

I am currently outputting audio via my pc graphics card with hdmi to tv and then via optical to my YAMAHA RN301 receiver.
Now my tv output is limited to 24/48 pcm but when i play higher resolution material the audio path button remains blue no changes being made. Also JRiver says the audio is being sent 32 bit even though the hardware is only 24 bit. Can anyone shed any light on what is going on here?
I'm using asio4all.

I'm using asio4all.
ASIO4All likely accepts any input format you give it, and resamples it to match your device's capabilities.
You should use a direct connection like WASAPI Exclusive Mode instead if you want it to match.
And even if the hardware is only capable of a 24-bit output, the interface may still accept a 32-bit input.

We do not recommend using ASIO4ALL, its basically just a wrapper around Kernel Streaming, so you might as well just use KS directly in MC - or even better a more modern output like WASAPI.

Thanks for the answers. I have now switched to WASAPI and now have to resample to 48khz for higher rez material. There is no kernel streaming option. I'm guessing it is better to resample with JRiver rather than letting the tv do it for better quality?

If you don't already know this and you want MC to resample higher resolution content automatically on-the-fly, you can open DSP Studio > Output Format section and set all sample rate outputs above 48 kHz to resample to 48 kHz. It'll should work out pretty good then! :)

Thanks very much to you all. Even downsampling the sound quality is still fantastic!!  :)
