xfinity Instant TV Running Inside MC
« on: March 14, 2018, 09:41:11 am »

I have always used OTA TV with 8 tuners in my desktop computer running through JRTV.

Last night I signed up for a free trial of xfinity Instant TV which runs from an app in my desktop computer & inside a browser (FireFox).

What I want to do is run it from MC. I have spent the morning looking at this & realized I don't have the foggiest idea if it is even possible.

If so (I hope) where do I start?

Thanks;
Doc

Start with Video Connected Media (and maybe Manage Links), plus the WDM Driver.

It will have to run in the built-in Chrome or IE browser in MC.

There are sure to be Wiki topics to read.

Thanks, Roderick.

I figured it would have to run inside the browser. Your info gives me a good starting point.

I'm hoping to be able to use MC for xfinity's Program Guide & possibly recordings. But that may be jumping a little too far ahead for now.

Either way, this should be interesting. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just an update.

I've decided NOT to use xfinity Instant TV & have cancelled the free 30 day trial...

Was trying out xfinity Instant TV (streaming over the web). It is only $15 @ month, BUT…
    * Only 35 channels (and FULL of horrible repetitive commercials).
    * HD is $10 @ month more.
    * Is similar to DirectTV which I also tried & gave up on.

I gave up on xfinity Instant TV as I recalled I already have Amazon Prime which includes a NetFilx-like offering except at no additional charge…
    * WOW… what a difference.
    * 200,000 movies (most in HD), videos, & music selections.
    * ANYTHING I want… most for no additional charge.
    * AND… NO DARN COMMERCIALS at all.

I also re-instated my very old NetFlix account for only $7.99 @ month.
    * Very nice with no commercials.
    * Most are also in HD.
    * Seems that what Amazon does not have, NetFlix does (and vis-versa).
    * Between the two plus 148 channels of over the air Houston TV through JRiver Media Center, I have all the TV one can possible handle.

Both NetFlix & Amazon are doing a lot of in-house programming with some stunning results such as NetFlex’s Black Mirror & Amazon’s Electric Dreams series both of which have won many awards for quality programming.

It is so darn nice to be able to watch a complete movie or TV show with no stupid commercial interruptions.

I should have done this a LONG time ago. This arrangement works for me.

I’m one happy TV CAMPER  ;D.
