I have to agree this idea is a thumbs down it is not needed. I feel that it will only lead to hard feelings and arguments. JMHO

I greatly prefer the Reddit style of 'forum' where replies to comments are nested and can be voted up or down, rather than every comment being displayed linearly and topics being moved to the top of the list every time someone replies, but it's too radical a departure from traditional forums for some people and I doubt they're looking to migrate to something like that here.
One issue with that system is that you can end up with wrong or misleading information being upvoted to the top while the correct answer is near the bottom as it was posted later.
 
What I have seen on more traditional forums is that many are adding a way to give a post 'thanks' which is an indicator of it being a good or relevant post.
It doesn't alter the priority of the post, and you don't have a way to downvote posts, but can be useful.
