Windows 10 Start Menu "bug" with Spring update
« on: April 10, 2018, 08:54:32 pm »

So far I have had no start menu issues since updating Windows to Spring Creators update on Saturday.  Going to let MC play continuously overnight tonight to verify.  Let's see.

Time will tell. As with the Fall Creators Update the issue still existed for some users (me) but not others. When the update is officially out I'll be doing my clean install and testing.

I've been running it for a couple of weeks now and have had no issues with that either.
However I have run into several other problems on the system, such as Task View basically being unusable, madVR (ROHQ) performance being considerably reduced, and several system apps being very unstable.
This was an upgrade install to 17133 and I plan to do a clean install as soon as Microsoft makes it available via the Media Creation tool.

It also fixed the issue I was having where Media Center was causing severe DPC latency spikes and freezing the system every time it generated a new thumbnail.

There's one amazing feature for the SCU that I think many people here will have a use for:
Windows itself can now route any application's audio to any output device.
This lets you essentially create an "exclusive" output from an application such as Spotify to the JRiver WDM device.
It doesn't work perfectly, and it's not truly exclusive so it will be passed through the mixer, but you won't have anything else playing to it since it doesn't have to be set as the default device any more.

I was traveling the last couple days and let MC play music continuously.  After 36 hours the start menu works perfectly !!

I have been running the "spring update" on 3 systems as well. Start menu has a small lag time after some time running JRiver on one system, but still works without any errors logged in the event viewer. Hopefully this is fixed....fingers crossed.
