Unable to update if not on C:/
« on: May 07, 2018, 02:26:51 am »

I have made an install at E:/, not the regular C:/. It is not possible to use the normal (automatic) update procedure.

Whenever a new update arrives, the program extracts and seems to behave normally. But - no. The intended update to the program installed at E:/ is never performed. Instead I get a new installation at C:\.

If I disable the automatic update, and perform a manual search for updates and subsequently a download, the following update fails. Some 'JRTools' will not load. See attached error message.

Is this a bug, or has I made a mistake somewhere?

>install it manually<. but why would you install any program like that? you could just of installed as portable.

>in other words download it from the download page and install it like you did the first time<

*  but why would you install any program like that?
-> Lack of memory at C:\

*you could just of installed as portable
-> A portable installation will not start at Windows start.

none of this makes any sense. apparently you have more memory on your e drive! how is this possible and NOW you provide info about start-up.

This is quite normal. I do this all the time on my systems to keep the system partition simple and make data migration and re-imaging simpler.

If I disable the automatic update, and perform a manual search for updates and subsequently a download, the following update fails. Some 'JRTools' will not load. See attached error message.

I think it is possible your installation has become confused. I'd recommend the following:

1. Make a Library Backup, so you can restore your settings and Library after this process.
2. Uninstall MC24 entirely.
3. Reboot. Do not skip this step.
4. Reinstall MC24 manually, and make sure to put it on your E: drive as desired. You can use a slightly older build if you want to be able to quickly test the auto-updater (and not have to wait a week or so for a new build to come out).

I'm not positive, but I suspect that might fix your issue.

It is probably a separate physical drive. For example, use a small SSD as the boot drive (c:) and have a second, larger, slower drive for user data and applications. It could also just be a separate partition on the same physical disk to make it easier to migrate when needed (for a wipe and reinstall of the OS, for example).

I do the same thing on my home machines. I install most applications to the SSD C: drive, but I have a U: drive (which is a RAID array of spinners) for user data. However, I don't install all applications on my SSD because some programs are very large and only very infrequently used.

3. Reboot. Do not skip this step.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Perhaps it is just the word "memory" that is confusing you?  I think the issue is not RAM memory.  It is hard disk space.
