Side menu issue

I usually hide the side menu on the left side (Play New/Audio/Images/Video...).
Recently it is sometimes restored with an update notification even though I do nothing special.
It often happens when I minimize and restore MC.
I looked for any option to deactivate the update check, but couldn't find.
How to prevent the side menu restoration?

Help > Update Channels > Disable Automatic Update (not recommended)
