Unhandled exception: Silent death, not sure what changed
« on: September 22, 2018, 05:54:45 pm »

Starts ok, can start playing something, then it just dies...no OS message no error message, nothing.

It stays up just long enough to allow me to make some config changes, etc.

In the attached log, there are a bunch of missing files that are shown in an old itunes library.  I THINK this was the result of importing images into the system.  They have been deleted and don't show in the GUI, but show in the log.

See this error in log:

"0029156: 12520: General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Unhandled exception -- program crashing"

Note that something is getting stuck on an Enrique Iglesias song.  It first got stuck on another song which I moved out to the Desktop, then it moved on to the Enrique song.

I have managed to backup the library, but not sure if it is screwed up or not.

Any suggestions on where to look next?

v24.0.52

Help??

Additional info:

- Wife was trying to use the Playback Range.  She would enter info in, and on hitting return it would crash silently, every time.

- It didn't crash consistently at that time unless she actually tried to edit Playback Range

- She was trying to get some things on an old iPod that has worked with JRiver for a gig she was doing and the sync failed

- She went to iTunes (ugh) and did the same start/end time thing (I actually don't know where to do this, it is some kind of special thing inside iTunes, but it works with iPods).

- Now JRiver comes down without touching anything

It might have been working on this file:
C:\Users\Karen\Desktop\JRiver Tunes\Music\Enrique Iglesias\Bailando (English Version) - Enrique Iglesias.mp3

You could rename the folder and try again.

Do you ever get a crash dump in your logs?  That would help too.

1- I moved the first file it hung on, and it then hung on Enrique.  I could probably keep doing this, but it seems like there is something deeper going on (see 2 below).

2 - The log I attached is the only log content I have.  I ran it multiple times, it was the same.  There is no crash dump in the log, there is just an unhandled exception and it then shuts the system down.  So not really a crash, but an unhandled exception that results in the system shutting down.

Why is it getting caught on this song which was NOT part of the editing that my wife did (I asked)?

It would be helpful if the logging actually said what the problem was.

Moved Enrique, and it hung on someone else....same note about an unhandled exception.

It is interesting to me that is says "system crashing" but then kind of gracefully kills itself.

Turn off auto-import because I think it's dying on another file.  Then do you run alright?

Took a couple of tries to get it turned off, but now seems OK.

Still wish I knew why this was a problem....

Thanks

It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that it would try to read the same file over and over and over again. Especially in the way how it does it in the log.

Could you perhaps share one of the files it gets hung up on? Most recently that was Hugh Jackman\From Now On - Hugh Jackman.mp3
Mail it to hendrik at jriver dot com, or matt at jriver dot com - or both. :)
