Author Topic: Distorted sound during playback from library only - not when using WDM driver  (Read 1206 times)

My PC is running Windows 10 and MC24 and is connected to the exau2i USB asio interface. Somehow, I experience distorted sound when I play from my music library. This occurs with both music and movie file types. I do not have this problem when I play something from the web (Tidal, Youtube etc.) through the WDM driver and through the same USB interface using the same software and hardware volume control settings. Any help will be greatly appreciated:)

do you have the most current asio drivers and of course the most recent build of MC never hurts, make sure all of MC componets are allowed through your firewall, antivirus software can also cause problems.

EDIT: now that swiv3d mentions it....looks like it's a 32bit card....probably won't play well with a 64bit app if that's what you have for MC....just a thought

Thank you ~OHM~. I have the latest driver supplied by the manufacturer, and the latest MC build. I will check the firewall and antivirus software, though.

Any reason why you use the exau2i ? What does the exau2i  bridge to? What is the distortion you are hearing. Can you give some details of your audio setup inMC?

~OHM~ I think you are confusing 32 bit depth of an audio file with the 64 bit of an OS. ;D

Hi swiv3d, the exau2i interface is used to connect my computer to my dac. It's an I2S interface. The distortion sounds like some kind of digital clipping, telling me that the signal level is too high somewhere. I'm able to recreate this distortion by setting the software volume in Tidal or Youtube to 100%. When I do this, the same distortion appears using the WDM driver in MC24.

I've not changed anything in the audio setup in MC other than using exau2i ASIO as the audio device.

Try engaging volume levelling in DSP studio, and make sure that clipping protection is selected. You might watch the analyser when playing to see if the volume is maxing out. Also make sure you have Volume set to internal volume in the audio section of options - you can then adjust the output volume to the DAC. I am assuming you are not playing DSD files.
EDIT: How many of the 8 output channels are you using on the exau2i interface?

Thanks, I will try that. I'm only using two output channels on the exau2i.
