MC24 not recognizing network
« on: October 27, 2018, 02:44:28 pm »

New PC. Other computers have no problem with MC24 seeing local network storage. The new PC does show the files in explorer. Tried disabling firewall, no difference. Hence, cannot import media stored on NAS.

thanks Cornell

If you create a new empty library - let's call it NAS Library, then go to tools>import> configure auto import you should be able to add the folders you want to watch by browsing to them and selecting them.

On all other PCs connected to the same network, this is the case. However, nothing happens when I select 'network.

Does the nas drive show up in the network section of windows explorer? You might also want to check that your antivirus has the correct permissions for the MC version you are running.

Yes, the network shows up in Windows Explorer. This is a brand new box, nothing other than Win10 and MC24 installed. I'm thinking a firewall problem, but turning it off had no effect.
There is no 3rd. party anti- virus on the machine.

Windows defender is probably the culprit - give MC permissions in it. Have a look at this link

My guess is that the NAS is using SMB 1.0 and the new computer has that disabled by default.

Why would the nas drive show up in the windows explorer network if that was the case? - looking to learn stuff here not being critical.

OP said the network shows up. Didn't specifically say the NAS was visible.

Ah! I see, perhaps audiodoctor could clarify whether the nas drive is actually showing within the windows explorer network section.

Update your NAS firmware if possible so that it is using a more secure version of SMB, not v1.

Yes, explorer sees the NAS and files. The NAS is new also- Buffalo LS520. Files are public.

So, does MC24 have the necessary permissions in windows defender?

Update: On Win7 box, the NAS and files are shown and accessible from Explorer's tree.
On new Win10 box, the NAS shows up on the right side, under Media Devices. Only properties are available- IP address, MAC.
I followed the instructions to update Windows Defender; and tried disabling it also.
Maybe I'm missing the boat here- something obviously overlooked. Should I try to reinstall JRiver??

Have you configured Auto Import or have you tried?  JRiver doesn't "see" any files unless you tell it where to look.

No. This isn't a MC problem. A reinstall won't fix anything. It is your network setup.

Update: On Win7 box, the NAS and files are shown and accessible from Explorer's tree.
On new Win10 box, the NAS shows up on the right side, under Media Devices. Only properties are available- IP address, MAC.

If the NAS only shows up under Media Devices under Network in Windows Explorer on the Windows 10 box, that indicates that your NAS has a DLNA server running, but it is not accessible as a network drive. So Network Discovery is not working.

Did you read and follow the thread I linked to above?
Had you already fixed that issue?
Does your NAS support later versions of SMB and are they turned on, or does it only support SMBv1?

Have you set up the nas drive for access from your new computer as described in the manual?

No, not on any of the other 3 machines- it wasn't necessary, as the NAS directories could be searched to.

Old Windows 7 PCs, files show up in Windows Explorer and MC sees and can play them.
New Windows 10 PC, files don't show up in Windows Explorer and MC can't see or play them.

If it isn't that, then contact your NAS provider and find what to do to get the latest version of Windows 10 to connect to and see files on your NAS... at which time they will tell you https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114852.msg794146.html#msg794146

After much hair- pulling research on this, I'm finding out it is a problem with the Nov. release. Many are having the same problem. I don't have the ability to 'roll back' as MS suggested. All of the other fixes had no effect Software on the NAS is current, as is that of router. I had a MS tech remote connected for 45 minutes, who was not able to correct and abruptly ended the call... Meanwhile; this box is on the back bench.

I threw in the towel and called a network specialist. He got it working by changing a registry entry that was thrown in to 'thwart ransomware'. Still have a few hiccups to deal with, so far so good. Loving this program more every time I open it.
