Ok, here is my problem a little while ago back in June actually, BBC4 and a few other channels disappeared and after multiple resets / rescans i gave up for a while.... Today i had some more time.

I installed a new wideband aerial, I ran new sat grade cable and hooked it all up and in jriver mc i am still only getting around 200 channels, however i got out the wintv code and installed the latest version of wintv and hey presto i find 311 channels including the elusive BBC4 and a number of the others that had vanished, doing some forum bumping it looks like they moved them to Com7,8 and what it looks like is that MC is not scanning those channel groups or if they are they are not finding them.

Now i know its down to JRiver interaction with the capture card and not aerial / cable / capture card causing the issue.

And yes before you ask i have loaded the latest available drivers and as far as i know the latest stable version of MC (24.0.55) !  :P

Any ideas how we can get it to find all these channels on a scan?

Do these missing channels have anything special, such as video format that is different from other channels?

Do you know the frequencies on which these channels are carried?  It may be possible that the frequency table we use for scanning is in need of updating.

DVB-T Freq range is 594MHz - 722MHz

BBC4 example is in 698MHz range with SID of 4608

DVB-T2 Freq being picked up are 770MHz

Other than that i'm not aware of anything else special.

I can do a more detailed list if you need, just let me know.

DVB-T Freq range is 594MHz - 722MHz

All frequency values in that range are in our frequency table.

That one is in the table too.

Which transmitter are you receiving your signal from? Rowridge?

The recent changes that put BBC4 and BBC News24 (and a few other channels) on to Com7 have caused a lot of issues and the strength of the signal transmitted is very low. If your tv card is not very sensitive then that might explain why its not picking up some channels. I had a group A aerial replaced with a wideband and the signal for some of the muxes can still be very low. My Sony tv deals with a weak signal better than my HDHomerun tuner but after some aerial tweaking both receive BBC4 and News 24.

I'd put money on your issue being weak signal.

Thanks Yaobing i'll try and get that done today.

hi robt thanks for the idea but i had already disproved the signal issue by using different software on the same machine with the same card which picks up the missing channels

Thanks for the log.  MC was not able to get useful data from the Program Map Table on BBC FOUR.  I don't know why.  The PMT is where we get info on audio and video streams along with subtitles etc.  We got nothing there.

Code: [Select]
TSID: 45056, SID: 45120 (, BBC FOUR HD), PMT PID 1004, video PID 0, audio PID 0 ()
Transport Stream ID: 45056
Service ID: 45120
PMT PID: 1004
Video PID: 0 <------------
Audio PID: 0 <------------

I don't know why.

Try playing a couple of channels that share the same transport stream, such as "QUEST HD", "PBS America".  Capture a log again.

To keep the log file from being too large, reset logging or simply restart MC before trying.  If the log file is still too large to share on the forum, email it to me.  yaobing (at) jriver  (dot)  com

Restarted MC, watched Quest HD as requested, sent via email just now.

Unfortunately, the result is the same.  The PMT still does not contain any audio or video streams. I am at a loss.

The only stream reported in the log is a stream type 11 (DDM CC messages).  Is this channel some kind of new service type that I do not understand?  I wonder.

i found this, not sure if it is of any help?

Tech analysis
a516digital editor Mike Mannng comments:
The changes affect two services broadcast on Arqiva's HD multiplexes. As part of a move by Ofcom to clear the 700MHz frequency band for future 5G mobile services, Arqiva's HD multiplexes will be moved to a temporary single frequency network on UHF channels 55 and 56 on a region-by-region basis, starting from February 2018. For the first time, neighbouring Freeview transmitters will carry the same services on the same frequencies. Under normal circumstances this would cause co-channel interference, particularly in overlap areas where signals from multiple transmitters would destroy reception. As a result, a parameter called the guard interval is being changed (from 1/128 to 1/16) on the affected multiplexes to ensure this doesn't happen. This is now due to take place around 25th January, subject to final confirmation. However, the trade-off is that the available bandwidth is reduced - expected to be by around 3Mbps per multiplex. A reduction of bandwidth means there's less room for as many channels to broadcast on a multiplex, so something has to move. Arqiva's COM7 multiplex, which carries the affected BBC HD services will be full after the switch based on the services it carries now. However, with space still available elsewhere, it provides an opportunity to conduct some load balancing, moving channels like BBC Four HD to where there's still some room.

Guard interval is something we have been ignoring.  Even if we do not ignore it, we still need to have the audio and video packet IDs.

We did find CBeebies HD on the same transport, so BBC HD should be there too.

Does WinTV tell you what video PID and audio PID it found for the affected channels?  If you have that information, you can try manually creating the missing channels.

oooo... i think i just cracked it, when i did the scan earlier it was not transmitting, hence it saw the channel but had no live feed and therefore no audio / video PID's...

currently that channel is transmitting so i just ran another scan and this time MC saw it and has added it as a channel!

I will grab the video and audio PID's from the log shortly and update in here

yup the channel now is in the list so it needs to be transmitting when a scan is done otherwise it disappears... don't know if other streams will be similar but worthy of note for sure...

187934078: 2400: TV: CMPEG2SectionsAndTablesParser::ParsePMT: TSID: 45056, SID: 45120 (, BBC FOUR HD), PMT PID 1004, video PID 201, audio PIDs 202 (eng), 204 (eng)

Thanks for all the help in pointing me in the right direction :)
