Glad I Did Not Purchase This App
« on: December 18, 2018, 12:50:04 am »

Let me get this straight: a forum for a software company is supposed to be a support system? Trial version for Mac never did detect my AK70 MK II hence no viable way to use the software. App price is exorbitant for something that doesn't work with no viable tech support (or am I'm supposed to rely on a reply from an Administrator (and Citizen of the Universe for gawd sake) for tech support? Just check out the myriad posts in Interact with no reply (mine's in there somewhere) either from a Citizen Of The Universe or Citizen Kane.

I disagree, I find that the forums (and the wiki) are great tools for technical support and believe it or not software companies using forums for technical support is more common than you think. Usually when there's no reply, it means nobody knows the answer. That said, I'd recommend doing a search of the forums (or the wiki) to see if a related issue has been posted. In this case, indeed there was recently in the Androids and other portables forum section...

Looking at that topic, especially the last post, it looks like the issue is with A&K itself as it looks like you can't mount a A&K player in macOS like you can in Windows. It seems A&K doesn't intend to add additional support for macOS, e.g. mounting their players in Finder which MC needs to be able to sync to it, so that's why it doesn't work. I don't think there's anything JRiver can do about this and it would be up to A&K to add additional macOS support allowing the mounting their players in macOS and allowing them to be visible in Finder.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from Viagra and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

I don't want to argue with you Willie, but what you've said seems like it needs some commentary.

First, yes support is done through the forum.  I sometimes think it's a little weird myself, but it does work pretty well.  But if you are not willing to put in some effort in learning, then it certainly won't work for you.  JRiver MC is very powerful, very complex software.  Tech support for it can be challenging.

Like support for your A&K device.  I've seen a handful of questions about these over the years and they tend to be problematic with Macs and MC.  I'm not sure why as I don't own one and I haven't really researched it.  Speaking of your A&K, that's a DAP that costs several hundred dollars.  I hope it's really nice.  But it's odd to me that you own such a high end DAP, yet you say that MC's price is way too high.  Software is worth money too my friend.  Thousands and thousands of paid man hours go into developing MC every year, year after year.  The MC's price of well under $100 might seem weird if you have never paid for software before.  I wasn't sure it was worth it at first either.  But after using MC successfully for a little more than a month, I couldn't live without it, and wanted to buy.

Also note that MC's annual upgrades are not free, but they come at a vastly discounted price.  Of course MC's license never expires, so you never have to upgrade.  Just know that upgrades are discounted very heavily should one decide to upgrade.

I know it sucks to be told that your cool new toy doesn't work well in some environments.  I know it sucks to ask an honest simple question in a support forum and get no responses.  I almost responded to you myself, but I didn't have anything useful to add other than what I said above, which probably isn't all that useful for you.

If syncing with the A&K is your major use for MC for Mac, it probably isn't the right software for you.  If you are looking for a music manager and ultra high quality player, maybe it is.

Either way, good luck to you.

PS:  I have no affiliation with JRiver; I'm just a customer.

Brian.
