You put the images in the playlist and then put the music you want played in the playlist too.

From the wiki
Normally files in a Playlist are played in sequential order from beginning to end, one after the other. However, Media Center has special handling for mixed lists of Audio and Image files, which allows you to create a photo slideshow with music. Simply add the photos and music you'd like to play together to a Playlist, and when you play it, Media Center will play the photos at the same time as the music.

It would be a nice addition if you could add a music playlist to a view of images under visualisations as you intimated.

ok thanks.

Hubby plays music by selecting as he goes, so was hoping somehow to add the photo folder into the visualizations to play they way

Hi Maid, have a look at your visualisation options... In particular, try 3D Visualisations > Slideshow

It's not quite full screen, but works pretty well. It sometimes gets a bit lost, stopping midway between images, but sorts itself out again reasonably quickly. You might like that.

Tip:
Create a smartlist called "3D Visualization Images", set some rules up in there, and slideshow will only use those images. I set mine to only use landscape photos amongst others, as it doesn't handle portrait photos very well.
