Dedicated player & processor
« on: October 11, 2019, 09:04:41 am »

Can you set up a system where you have a dedicated powerful pc for processing like upsampling DSD and have another PC as a player? If so, how?

Is this possible?

"Ok: in my case, I have a powerful PC server in a room and a Celeron j1900 client in another room. I set in DLNA on PC server a series of DSP including convolution: in this case, the server sends the stream decoded to the MC client device? or not?"

How are you connecting the two PCs?

Via LAN. I did setup I7 pc as server and the Celeron PC as client. It's seems flaky when you have the server upsample to DSD128.

Could be many things but I suspect that your i7 server may be running out of steam if it is performing many DSP tasks and, perhaps, many non-music-related ones.  What i7 is it? Wired or wireless LAN?

Does the server do the conversion to DSD128 properly when run as a stand alone system?

Do you mean via hard wired Ethernet? Or via WiFi? In either case, what is your actual tested bps throughput?

Everything is hardwired. I like to just set up a playback system that consists of a core (Powerful & Intel i7 PC doing all the processing like upsampling Redbook to DSD128), output the processed signal to a PC (Inteli3 PC) and the to a DSD DAC.
