Dynamic Expander
« on: October 16, 2019, 11:40:47 am »

Hello Team,

since a lot of years Music on CD is offered in very bad Dynamic Range.
There for I'd like to have a tool inside Media Center like a Dynamic Expander, which would be able to expand music in several dB steps.

That idea from charly sounds good.  Maybe something for V26?

Is this still being considered?

I use to have several Phase Linear preamp's (designed by Bob Carver) that had a "Peak Unlimiter/Downward Expander" It analysed the music and "uncompressed" peaks that it determined needing more headroom (I know it looked at the attack rate of the signal, but the details escape me now). It also made the quieter parts lower, so it gave you a much more dynamic listening experience. Things with impact like drums and certain bass parts could really use the increased dynamics. I still miss my old Phase Linear equipment. :-)

Google turns up several VST plugins that offer dynamic expansion.  You might give those a try since Media Center fully supports VST.
