Moving this question out from my recent thread about ripping to FLAC since it might be a bit buried in there.

I'm on MC v25 and trying to rip from CD to FLAC.

I see Rip Disc.  I've previously adjusted File Locations etc.

I started ripping.  Things appear to be going well.

But the CD keeps getting ejected before all the tracks are ripped, and I get an error saying "Read track failed.  Parameter is out of range".  This happens in either track 2 or 3.

Any ideas?

Any disc?  Or just one?

Catalina?

Which build of MC?

Agh.  Looks like a defective disc.  When was the last time that happened?  Apologies for what looks like a non-issue, I tested using another tool and it looks like the CD is bad.

I'm running Mojave, 10.14.6.

I can't see where to find a version ID of MC within the app, but I had downloaded MediaCenter250108.dmg.

One thing I have now noticed though, is that when I start MC I get two of the MC icons in my dock?  One is the active one, and another just goes into the dock, inactive.  Any idea why that is?

It's the recent application feature thing with Mojave causing it.

This has been marked solved but it isn't really.

I bought a replacement for the CD that was defective.

The new CD got ejected after 4 of the 5 tracks, MS says Rip Failed, and the 5th track isn't ripped.

I had to re-insert the CD and select the 5th tracks and re-rip to get it to work.

What am I missing?

For what it's worth, the CD is Miles Davis' My Funny Valentine, where all the tracks are at least 9 minutes long - is that a factor?

Try an alternate ripping application with the same disc and the same drive.  If that fails too, then it might be hardware (disc, drive, cables, etc).  If it succeeds, then maybe it's an MC problem.

So I tried my old ripping app (Max, a tool I've used for 10+ years) and it ripped everything ok......although it did hiccup reading the index, in a way it never normally does.

I'm really puzzled by this.  The two CD's I've tried since becoming an MC user are My Funny Valentine and Four & More, also by Miles.  I got them both on Amazon, new, for $3.75 each.  I wonder whether there was some weird cheap re-pressing that has faulty discs.

Nevertheless, I have for the FLAC files and lets consider this closed until the next time I try ripping.

Thanks everybody who helped.
