project blue audio streamer
« on: November 02, 2019, 11:13:42 am »

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this here - so please forgive me if it's out of place!

For quite a few years now, I've maintained a little side project of mine, project blue. It's an audio-focused Android streaming application designed around JRiver's Media Center server, with the expressed goal of providing reliable audio streaming when on the go.

More than anything, it's a dogfooding project for me - circa 2012, I had the desire for an application that would stream reliably from Media Center without crashing or automatically closing (and as a bonus, can sync playlists), and while this field has certainly changed since then, I've still had a ton of fun maintaining the application. I just recently came back to this forum and discovered this "Remotes" board, and I thought I should let you fine folks know that it's out there for your use if you want it...

It's available on the Google Play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lasthopesoftware.bluewater
And it's also open source, so feel free to submit issues or pull requests (keeping in mind I maintain this in my free time) - https://github.com/namehillsoftware/projectBlue

Bumping this back up after a few years, as the UI has been re-worked, and some small features have been added, such as the ability to edit playlists from the Now Playing view. If you have the need to stream audio remotely from JRiver then I think this little app does a great job, at least it has for myself on long drives through rural America!
