Please read the Media Network topic on our wiki.  Also Network Access.

Your firewall on your laptop may be blocking JRemote.

What error do you get?

Try resetting the access key in Media Center and then try the new access key it generates. You just go to Tools -> Options -> Media Network, click on Access Key and then select Reset.

I uninstalled the MC I tried everything like a 100 times for the whole weekend never been so frustrated.
This is a hobby to relax and enjoy.
The reason I got this was because of the reviews of the great support.

just spoke to a nice lady at your office an she seem very concerned I'm willing to try one more time. So lets hope for the best.

In Media Network settings, there is a test function.  What does it tell you?

Is your phone on your local network?

Click on the Access Key in the Media Network Options to find the test.

OK.  That's good.  You should be able to use JRemote on your iPhone to connect to MC on a computer.  They must be on the same network.

What are the IP addresses of each?

Don't have I phone I'm using an Ipad for this. The laptop IP is 162.199.x.x [edited by mod] and the same for the Ipad.

OK.  That's probably your outside address.  They would normally be something like 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20.  They can't use the same IP address.  Double check what they are.

Describe your Internet connection.  Are your devices getting their IP addresses by using DHCP?

Is the iPad on your wireless network?  It must be in order for JRemote to work.  Both devices must be on the same LAN.

Just as a test, try using Panel.  You can enter your access key here:

That's not good.  Something is blocking.

Is your computer running Windows or OSX?

On the computer, try running Panel again.

Make sure you have MC running on the computer or at least Media Server (part of MC).

Windows?

The firewall must be open on 52199.

It should be OK, but you need to open the firewall on port 52199.  Also read the Windows Defender thread here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114101.0.html .  Use it to configure Windows Defender.

If you're running another antivirus program, uninstall it.  Windows Defender is enough.

Whoa, let's back up a bit.

As Jim suggested earlier, on your laptop have MC running, check Media Network is turned on, Authentication is turned on with a Username and Password set up for Authentication, and "Read-only Authentication" is Disabled. Note also that the "TCP Port" is set to 52199, and "Enable SSL" is unchecked. See the first image.

Then on the laptop, open a browser and go to https://jriver.com/panel.html, then enter your Access Key and select your Location as "Inside my network", then click "connect". See the second image.
Note: You may see a popup window asking for a Username and Password, and also Username and Password request in the page that URL goes to. Enter the same Username and Password into both. Whether you see both depends on your security settings in the browser, I believe. In future you should only have to enter the Username and Password into the page itself, or not at all.

The location field defaults to "Outside my network" the first time you open that page, and if you left it at that setting, that would explain the "can't reach this page message", assuming you had Media Network turned on. If Media Network was still turned off, then naturally that page would be unreachable, as the page opens a connection to MC via Media Network on your laptop.

Unless you meant that the https://jriver.com/panel.html page was unreachable, in which case you must not have internet access. You need internet access to use the JRiver Access Key connection method. Let us know if your laptop does not have internet access, as that can be worked around as well.

An alternate way to connect to Panel on your laptop would be to use the URL in a Browser:  http://192.168.1.132:52199
This is all explained in the Panel Wiki article: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Panel

If the above works, then go to your iPad, open a Browser, and connect using the same method.

If Panel works on the iPad, then JRemote should also connect. If it doesn't, and the iPad has internet access and you use the Access Key method, then you must have entered the Access Key incorrectly. If the iPad doesn't have internet access, then use the IP Address of the laptop to connect in JRemote.

It is a MC specific password not related to a network pw. What you are doing is setting up authentication into your MC server, so can be anything you like.

That's like the second time in the last few weeks (I recall reading), that NordVPN was preventing JRemote from working. It makes sense that using a VPN could cause this type of issue - if you're using a VPN and JRemote isn't working for you, that's probably why.

Are you sure your phone is on WiFi? Your phone and laptop must be on the same network. Since I have unlimited phone data, I rarely log into my WiFi. Took me a second or two to realize that I had to switch to my WiFi connection to make JRemote and jriver speak to each other.

Are you sure your phone is on WiFi?

Laptop 192.168.1.132
iPad     192.168.1.169

Same subnet. The iPad IP Address is not an external/mobile broadband address. Must be on WiFi.

It is weird that NORD VPN causes an issue even when it isn't connected. However, as I mentioned elsewhere, I've seen the VPN change my HTPC network connection to Public rather than Private, which it should (well, probably) do during connection but not after a VPN connection is closed. The connection should be switched back to Private when the VPN is closed. This could be the issue with NORD.

Some VPN software changes your default gateway so that all traffic goes through the VPN adapter. The result is that you can no longer see devices on your own network. I see that NordVPN has instructions for changing your default gateway back to your local router, so this could be the issue here.

Now should I install The McAfee Antivirus or not? and also Should I try IP Vanish ?

Some VPN software changes your default gateway so that all traffic goes through the VPN adapter.

Well, that would do it. I don't like their fix either. I suspect it is removing some of the VPN protection. IPVanish doesn't change the Default Gateway, or at least doesn't appear to. In fact, it hides it for the active IPVanish connection but leaves the DNS Server settings alone, which in my case point to the router. IPVanish does use a TAP Adapter though, which isn't active when the VPN isn't connected. When connected, both the original connection and the TAP connection are active. It leaves the normal ethernet connection as a Private connection, and creates the TAP connection as a Public connection. IPVanish seems to be doing a better job.

I can connect to my HTPC MC Server from JRemote2 and Gizmo on my Android phone, when the VPN is running on the HTPC.

Now should I install The McAfee Antivirus or not?

Have you paid for it? If so, as it doesn't seem to be the problem, then you may wish to reinstall it. If you haven't paid for it, Windows Defender on current versions of Windows 10 seems to be a good alternative, and it is free, and already installed.

and also Should I try IP Vanish ?

Entirely up to you. As I said, it isn't cheap. But it has nice features like a Kill Switch, which disconnects all internet connections if the connection to the VPN drops out. Some other VPNs will just switch your internet connection to any available connection, or let Windows do that, and then your connection is unprotected. But maybe NORD has such features as well, I don't know.

There are quite a few VPN comparison reviews to be found on the internet. Find a recent one that compares IPVanish with NORD.

Rey G -  Glad you got it figured out. I uninstalled Nord and reinstalled it (making certain that I didnt select to block computer-wide access to the internet without VPN connection, which is a new feature) and so far have not had any problems.
