Disable creation of waveforms
« on: February 17, 2020, 10:12:56 am »

How can I prevent the creation of waveforms on newly imported audio? Everything else is fine and should remain as-is, but on a small system with limited disk space I really have no need for thousands of waveforms.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have "show waveform" disabled but I need to prevent their unnecessary creation when new material is added to the library. Thanks.

MC's Options > Library & Folders > Manage Library Fields > find Waveform in the list and uncheck Save in file tags (if possible) and press OK. MC will still analyze waveform info but it won't apply it to the file's tags, so you can easily select all your files, select Tag to open the tag window then scroll down to Waveform and right click on it and select Empty.

Thanks – seems convoluted though!

Wouldn't a simple option to "build waveform" as one of the media import task check boxes be more logical, alongside "build thumbnails", for instance?

Seems like a good option to me. Not having the waveform also keeps the tag editor and viewer clean.

Since we already have the ability to choose whether or not we want MC to check for HD recordings then providing a similar option for "build waveform" is a lot more end user friendly

Please allow this to be selected as an option, rather than those of us not wanting it having to always delete it.  I've tried unchecking the " Save in file tags (if possible)" but waveform info is still saved.  Seems odd to me this isn't an option.
