Mac OS JRiver interface window sticks
« on: September 28, 2019, 02:10:08 am »

Hi everyone,

If I try to make the interface window of JRiver bigger its snaps to the old position. 1/10 time when I try it works its very annoying and I have this from the first time I installed it. I am now on version 23. When I try version 25 its the same thing. That's what keeping mee from buying an upgrade.

Anyone have a clue what to do? Am I the only one with this?

Thanx for the support,

The MC window resizing behavior is WEIRD.  I can't explain exactly what it does or why.  Your problem is new to me, so I tried to recreated it.

I was able to resize the window exactly as I wanted 4 or 5 times.  But then I tried doing it *faster*.  I grabbed an edge, moved the mouse, and then VERY quickly released the mouse button.... and it did what your video shows!  If you try to resize really quickly, MC snaps back to it's original size and shape.

So, try doing it slower.  Go to an edge, hold down the mouse button, and drag to a new place while holding.  Now slowly letting go of the mouse button.  You might even wait for about 1 second before you release the mouse.  It should stay at the size you dragged to.

I run with MC maximized almost 100% of the time.  You can easily maximize MC by double clicking on the title bar at the top.

Good luck.

Brian.

You could try MC25 to see if it's better.

Hi @JimH,

I'm using the latest version but I notice the same behaviour as the previous poster. See video:
https://d.pr/v/YRYDBs
You might notice I'm on macOS 10.15 but it also happenen in the same way on 10.14.

Thanks for looking into this,

Like Brian, I can reproduce it too.

I have tried the ‘doing it slow’ suggestion… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
I should think that speed shouldn’t matter, it should just stick to the size to which you have resized the window. Would be grateful for a fix :-).

Hi there, thanks for all the response. I am sort of 'lucky' I am not the only one with this problem. I am afraid this problem gets even worse when you are working with a Wacom tablet like me. Buying a mouse is not an option if the problem still exists. Is there somebody at the developer crew that can look into this. Its a brilliant piece of software but this is a bug in the interface that keeps me from upgrading I am afraid. I think it has to do with the response time when you let go of the mouse button, the position has to be exact the same. When you are lucky : ) Every time I want to change an album I am afraid to resize the window or dividers :-\ I hope this can be fixed!

Thanks

Can you all find anything in common with the behavior on your machines? I can't seem to reproduce it here on our build machine running 10.15 or 10.14 retina or not.
I also can't see the video as it requires a password...

Hi @bob and @JimH

Sorry, I missed your reply Bob (I've now activsted notifications so replies will be more swift). I just came here to post a video of the behaviour when I noticed your last post.

I guess having an external monitor attached to your computer (in my case Macbook Pro mid 2015) might cause part of the problem.

The jumpiness as you can see in the video in mini mode doesn't occur when no monitor is attached. When a monitor is attached the jumpiness starts.

The jumping back to a smaller size after you let go of the window-side when resizing occurs also when no monitor attached though. It looks like Media Center isn't fast enough in registering the new redrawn size of the window to make it stick.

Screen recording with behaviour:

I hope this information help in finding the problem wouldn't mind getting rid of it.

Thanks, Jan

Sorry for that Brian, I had set it too private.

Dear @JimH,

I'd hoped that this MC window resizing bug would've been fixed in MC26 but it's still there. On my MacbookPro with external monitor attached anyway.

Is this on the roadmap to be fixed? I'ts currently a very jittery and unpleasant experience when resizing the window. I cant even place the miniplayer everywhere on my screen. Some areas are unreachable.

Thanks for a reply,
Jan
