Populating Playlist Handheld

My Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 is now syncing.  All of the songs, albums and artists are on my handheld.  The playlist folder is on there too, but I can not get the songs to appear on the playlist.  I get the message that the songs are already on the device when I try to populate the playlist.
