JRemote 3.33 (IOS) - Transcoding to 32 bit
« on: July 12, 2020, 11:12:49 am »

When I use the "transcode" setting on streaming to local device on JRemote 3.33 (IOS), all files are transcoded to 32bits, e.g. streaming a native 16 bit 44.1 kHz FLAC file to JRemote local device with "High Quality" transcoding setting checked produces output displayed by JRemote as "This device: 44.1kHz/32 bit MP3".  Why 32 bit instead of leaving it as 16 bit - I don't recall changing any setting either in JRemote or MC (26.0.98 Windows - 64 bit) to request the change to 32 bit output bit depth.

I’m guessing it means to say 44.1kHz @ 16 bit @ 2 channels ...

Or it's simply padding the bit-depth of the output files to 32-bit.

MP3 is often handled as floating point audio, which is 32-bit. MP3 has no meaningful bitdepth, so ideally it should just not be displayed at all.
