For MC 27 I expect from the MC Team a Statement of Direction regarding the support of all the fancy - or not so fancy - technologies used by Apple in the future:

- Apple new OS BigSur
- ARM
- Metal - will their a new video engine for BigSur

Big Sur itself likely won't matter too much, MC for Mac *should* run fine on Intel Macs running Big Sur.

ARM and Metal are the ones that do matter. Has Apple fully removed OpenGL support from Big Sur? If so, MC for Mac won't be able to playback video. If OpenGL support in macOS hasn't been removed, it should still work in MC until Apple does remove it.

If/when OpenGL is removed, JRiver will have to decide if they're going to support Metal or not. There are stopgap solutions out there like MoltenGL.

Not sure about ARM though, they may or may not pursue it. I guess they'll have to wait and see on that one.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from Viagra and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.
