How to change field data type from string to list?
« on: August 15, 2020, 06:11:51 am »

My files heave a STYLE tag set up as a multi-value field (semicolon delimited).
Imported into MC this field has data type "string" and the data type is not editable.

I sure hope there is a way to accommodate this (and possibly other) multi-value field(s) in MC, because it's central to how I organise my files.

I found only some very old posts about this without a clear answer.

Unfortunately there is no way of changing the type of any "Predefine Tag/Field" like STYLE

The only thing you can do is set up a list type tag, with a very different name i.e.MyStyle, and get MC to copy the contents of "Style" to "MyStyle".
The other way around it is to get MC to copy, or append, the contents of the Style Tag to the Genre Tag.

Thanks.
I'll have to go for the first option then. I use style as a sub genre so can't mash it all together.
Seems an odd limitation though, non-editable type...

EDIT: I could set up a list type tag, just for use by MC, as part of the MC library without it being written to file I suppose?

One of the nice things about MC is it allows you to decide if any Non-Standard Tags you add are written/saved to the files or not.
