Restore license issue
« on: October 09, 2020, 07:37:02 pm »

I'm having an issue with my license restoration; every time I load MC it tells me the trial period has expired and I have to re-enter my license key.

This is a massive pain; no one wants to have to do this every time they load a program and I'm running it headless, so I have to boot up another PC to perform the task. I'm also worried I'm going to run out of restores very soon!

Please can you advise me on what to do to fix this?

Are you possibly restoring the license in a different version?

Don't worry about restores.  We can fix that.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply; I forgot to say I'm using v24.0.69 (64 bit), so possibly wrong forum, I didn't know where to post this specifically?

Either way - this is an issue I've not had before and nothing has changed, so it's really weird that it's appeared out of nowhere.

Can  you describe your OS and setup?  Anything unusual?  Anything change recently?

OS is Snakeoil (dedicated Linux audio kernel). Ive used it for years without issue and nothing has changed either, both for software and hardware; that's what's so weird about this to me.

It runs headless so i use eithet vnc viewer, JRemote or the snakeoil page to run / administer everything.

You results may vary in that case, since JRiver Media Center on Linux only officially supports Debian (and I suppose only semi-unofficially supports Ubuntu). Using an OS like that is (very likely) not supported and you might be on your own when encountering any issues.

Snakeoil OS (appropriate name, hahaha) states on their website that the OS itself has been tweaked, so there might have been tweak(s) done that break licensing in JRiver Media Center.

There's no such thing as a dedicated Linux audio kernel.

@JimH - excuse the inaccuracy of my language, it's a minimalist Linux set up optimised purely for audio.

@Awesome - I hear what you're saying but it's worked fine for months and without change, there's change... fair enough JRiver isn't supported on it, but please can I enquire around how to sort out more licenses refreshes please? I don't want to not be able to listen to music.

I'll speak to the guy that wrote Snakeoil and see if he has heard of this issue and indeed if there are any fixes for it.
