Bitstreaming of the DSD512 doesn't work properly. It pauses every several seconds and makes buffering for the next several seconds.

My OPPO Sonica DAC is compatible with DSD512 bitstreaming and my PC has 3,2 GHz processor and 8 GB memory.

DSD256 and PCM352 (DXD) I had a chance to test too and they work normal.

What could be the cause of the problem with the DSD512?

Are you connecting to the DAC over USB or via your network?
Are you in native DSD mode? That DAC is not capable of doing DSD512 in DoP mode.

Thank you bob. I am connecting over USB and yes, I think I am in the native mode because settings interface doesn't even offer DoP to me, probably because it 'knows' OPPO Sonica doesn't need something like that.
Could it be that the JRiver needs ultra strong processor and/or ultra large memory for bitstreaming DSD512 to the DAC? I have 3,2 GHz and 8 GB.

While JRiver executes buffering every several seconds, and then plays for several seconds, the DAC indeed shows 'PCM' instead of 'DSD'. Is it possible that JRiver itself forces the use of DoP for some reason?

Are you bitstreaming DSD, or are you using DSP Studio > Output Format > Output Encoding? You should be using the former and not the latter as the latter converts everything (PCM and DSD) to whatever you have it set to. It's also very resource intensive converting to DSD via Output Encoding (and is a lossy conversion process), and if your computer is not fast enough to handle it, it'll buffer every few seconds (which is the symptom of the issue you're describing). Bitstreaming DSD likely wouldn't produce the issue you're encountering.

I am bitstreaming DSD512 (dsf 2.0) bought from NativeDSD, with all processings disabled.

Thank you for the link too. But I notice the article mentions 3 Technologies of bitstreaming, mentioning ASIO and not mentioning WASAPI did I spell correctly?). And I think JRiver added the Word WASAPI next to OPPO Sonica name the device.
On the other hand, DSD256 would probably suffer the same way, but no, it works fine in my system.

WASAPI only supports DoP, which your DAC doesn't support for DSD512. If you want native DSD (which, again, your DAC only supports for DSD512) you'll have to see if there's an ASIO driver available and use that for the Oppo within Media Center as the audio output.

Screenshots of your setup, MC Options > Audio section and the list of your audio devices listed in MC would help.

Thank you, I will try to post screenshots tomorrow. For now, just in short:
I have 5-6 devices in the main list, four of them incl. Oppo have 'WASAPI' in brackets. Under 'More...' the four are repeated, incl. Oppo, but with 'Direct sound' in brackets. On the main list there is one with 'Asio' in it's name, something like 'foo_.... _asio'.
If I choose '... asio' or 'Oppo... Direct sound', playback results in the error message.
With 'Oppo.... WASAPI' everything is perfect except DSD512, which plays with beffering interruptions and Oppo doesn't show DSD but PCM.

Which is to be expected, since WASAPI doesn't support native DSD playback which is required for your Oppo to play back DSD512. WASAPI only supports DoP for DSD bitstreaming. You might want to contact Oppo directly and see if they have an ASIO driver for native DSD playback on Windows or some other solution for you. Unless they have an ASIO driver for Windows, you won't be able to get native DSD for DSD512 working so contacting them is probably your best course of action at this point.

P.S. Avoid DirectSound, it goes through the system mixer, so anything you output via DirectSound isn't bit-perfect. Plus you can't bitstream DSD through DirectSound, only ASIO and WASAPI.

Man, you are right, thank you very very much.
I've just connected my Oppo DAC to another computer (HP laptop, Win7, while the first one was a big HTPC with Win10) and it happened that by installing Oppo's driver, there came two versions (Audio Devices), WASAPI and ASIO. Like you said, with ASIO version everything works fine and I can now see 'DSD 22.579 MHz' on my Oppo's display!
Now I am going to try the same instalation proces on my HTPC, maybe it gets ASIO Audio Device too.
