Hi all.
I have recently "lost " one of my hdmi outputs on my pc ( hp pavillion wave )
I am looking into Dacs with optical in and out .
My question is do i need a dac that can render 7.1(or 5.1 ) or does the signal pass through a
dac such as the Cambridge dm with JRiver delivering the surround information.

Some of my lingo is probably incorrect as i know nothing about the subject but am forced to find out
as i used to use my extra hdmi out into a extractor and then digital in to my old okyo amp which worked
fine for my purposes.

I have looked at the soundblaster g6 as a solution but think it better to check with you fine folks first.
