Big Sur and Catalina crashes
« on: April 16, 2021, 09:54:42 am »

Hi

I have been using JRiver for many years and bought several Mac versions.

I only use JRiver as a UPNP media library (with transcoding DSD files to PCM 176).

I have used MC25 for a long time without any troubles (several weeks uptime) on a Mac Mini with Mavericks OSX.

I have changed this Mac Mini for 2 Mac Mini (because two HiFi setups). One is running Big Sur, the other one is running on Catalina. The libraries are the same. On one Mac Mini, audio files are on 2 USB external hard drives. On the other one, audio files are on a single external USB drive.

JRiver crashes several times per da on both Mac Mini.

Some questions

- do I have any mean to find the reasons of these crashes?

- I am (of course) ready to buy MC27 if I am sure it solves the crashes. So Is there a possibility to test MC27 for a week or 2 before being it.

Best and kind regards

Just download and install Media Center 27 and run it in the 30 day free trial mode and see if it works better for you. I'm going to guess it will because the versions of macOS you're using are newer than the macOS version MC25 was developed for, so that could be part of the issue. Backwards compatibility with older Media Center versions with newer macOS versions is less forgiving than it is with Windows in that regard. Eventually older versions of Media Center won't run correctly (or at all) in newer macOS.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from Viagra and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.
