For me personally these would justify to upgrade to v28:

- support of passthrough only (not decoding) of HDR10+ content via HDMI
- support of passthrough only (not decoding) of Dolby Vision content via HDMI

These have been around for years, there are more and more such movies and still there is no support in JRiver

This would be a genuine added value and would justify the upgrade since people could actually benefit from it

HDR10+ and DV are not decoded by MC.

When using passthrough HDR10+ is passed with HDR10, your TV must support it.

Bluray Dolby Vision cannot be passthrough ... there are 2 video streams and these must be "preprocessed" by player ... i am not aware of anything on PC that can do this.

I am aware of 3 methods of playing Bluray DV:

1. Use UHD player that support DV with your disc

2. Rip disc and combine dual stream DV profile to single stream DV profile ... if i recall correctly, this method is packed into container that goes not support HD audio

3. Rip disc to mkv with MakeMKV ... stream to AppleTV 4K or new Nvudia Shield ... FINALLY this is available

The HDR10+ part sounds interesting
My Philips OLED805 TV does support HDR10+, when I plug a USB drive in it with a HDR10+ file it plays it and also displays HDR10+ in the bottom right corner
But when I play the same file with JRiver it just displays HDR and not HDR10+, so clearly JRiver does not pass throuh HDR10+ but just HDR

Can you please advise?

Regarding DV, can JRiver stream it to Nvidia Shield if it is in an MKV file?

Many thanks

If you running MC on Windows ... it cannot see Shield as it is chromecast device ... 2 option:
1. Buy and install MC on nvidia shield
2. Use bubbleUPnP

I have not tested above (i tested DV mkv with Plex running on it) ... but theoretically it should work ... havent play with this much as i find DV not so mind blowing as expected.

Regarding HDR10+ ... are you using RO HQ? ... i have not tested this (as i havd no HDR10+ TV) but in theory ghis should work

OK I see, thank you

Yes, I am using RO HQ (madvr set to passthrough HDR) but still it is only HDR and not HDR10+

Sorry ... hdr10+ does not work with passthrough in madvr ... did a quick search and it seems nothing support it (shield and appletv ... last one is probaly nail in the coffin for it)

BUT if your tv can play those files directly of USB ... then this might work:

IF your TV is DLNA renderer ... in MC you will see your TV listed under [playing now] ... choose it and play file in MC

In this case, MC will tell your TV to directly access file over DLNA ... your TV will switch to its internal player ... and once finish playing - return to PC input

Crude but should work ... pls let me know if that works - very curious myself with no means to test it

Unfortunately my TV is not listed there...

It is an Android-based TV so I guess it has Chromecast

Would you see a workaround for this maybe?
Thank you

OK, we are getting there! :)
It works! HDR10+ is streamed to my TV!
Thank you so much for the help!

There is now just one caveat left: I need the sound to still output from my PC (the Player in JRiver) and not from the TV....
I have a multichannel DAC with DSP, etc. that I use for sound output
Can I somehow configure that in JRiver?

Thank you

Nope ... in this case you are not streaming movie to TV ... rather TV directly access file over DLNA ... so all playback is handled by TV

Best you can do is connect TV to Receiver via HDMI ARC or toshlink ... both cases dont do HD sound though (DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD)

I know it suck

With DV and Shield/AppleTV ... you can connect them to Receiver (that supports DV) then receiver to display

PS. DV will "never" be available on PC ... just like Atmos ... even if one is willing to pay licence fee

HDR10+ ... will unlikely be implemented by MC ... while its technically licence free ... you need to join some consortium for which there is fee that MC unlikely to pay seeing how HDR10+ seems like dead end

PSS. If money is not an issue ... Lumagen or MadVR Envy can do dynamic tone mapping like DV/HDR10+

EDIT: eARC can do HD sound ... but i think your TV just have regular ARC ... so you limited to 2 channel PCM or multichannel Dolby Digital

Thank you, really appreciate it!
Apparently I will need to stick to regular HDR then (at least until something new comes up)

If your GPU has enough horsepower ... instead of letting your TV do tone mapping (passing hdr metadata) ... let MadVR do tonemapping ... i will be very surprise if your TV can do better than MadVR

I wrote some beginner guide somewhere in Video section of tgis forum

PS. even though i can output my video in DV and Atmos through Shield ... i dont - i prefer my HTPC with MadVR
