Hi,
Here in Australia, there is a common set top box/PVR supplied by FetchTV. This box is somewhat closed but VLC is able to discover the device as a UPnP device and browse through the files that are recorded/stored on the device. I have attached a screenshot showing what VLC displays. A file within the box might have properties like this....

JRiver is neither able to discover the files within the device and when given the address, it reports there is nothing to play. VLC plays happily.

Do I have a setting wrong in JRiver?

MC uses the DMS Search(*) function to download remote libraries. And looks as though your FetchTV box only supports the DMS Browse() function for navigating the browse tree branch by branch.

Do you think this is something that I should ask if JRiver could make possible? Or will it break other functionality/not work with JRiver?

You could ask.

It is certainly doable. The old Windows Media Player would try to use Search() to load the library, but if that failed it would revert to an iterative / recursive Browse() down through all branches of the browse tree to fetch all entries in the library.
