I haven't played with 28 much but I imported an album today and did my usual - select all files and "rename, move and copy" and choose the template (track# - name). MC shows the new filename but it did not rename the file in the file system, and of course it would not play the file when clicked (as the filename is not correct)

EDIT: I just tested, and the "Rename" function (on one file works fine) so it shouldn't be a permission thing.

Is there an error log or similar I can see if there was an issue (I'm a dev myself)

Check the combobox at the top left.  It only moves files if you pick "Rename".
