I have a Linux machine running latest Ubuntu and MC. It has a built in DVD writer yet I don't even get any CD Options at all on it. When I go to options, I do not see the "Burning" or " CD, DVD & BD" menus. I also see nothing about ripping or burning in the Action Window. Nothing in Drives or devices either.
I can play the CD fine on the machine using the built in software (name escapes me).........

help.....

Edit - I am using the trial version……is that why?

I got Confirmation that there isn't any CD option on Linux....that would be why.....

I just downloaded the MediaCenter on trial for use in Linux.  I, too, shoved in a CD to find that there is no CD capability in the Linux version. Files play fine though and frankly sound better than when they are being played through Rythmbox (which is what is loaded as the default in my distro, Mint.)

Questions: are the CD playing and ripping capabilities in the works at this time?  Are there any other missing features on linux?

One workaround is to use virtualization and pass through the CD drive to a guest Windows client for ripping (you'll also want to share a folder between the guest/host or use Samba).

In many cases, it is good enough to copy tracks off of a CD as .wav files and then convert them in JRiver MC.

On Linux, I have used K3B with relatively good results. Ripping is fast and sounds great with the requisite options for choosing compression level if your chosen output is *.flac. There are other options including ogg vorbis.  I used to use MediaMonkey in Windows to rip disks until Microsoft ridiculously eliminated my  2 1/2 year-old Kaby Lake processor from their Windows 11 "allowed list. " I have since divorced myself from Windows completely. If you use Windows, Media Monkey or Foobar2000 are good rippers.
