Handling albums with multiple CD's!
« on: March 20, 2003, 03:37:01 am »

Just wondering how you keep your multiple cd's albums? Best practice? Advantages/disadvantages?

Do you merge more than one cd of an album into one single album or do you keep separate albums such as Title (cd1), Title (cd2) for each cd?

Artist/Album/Disc 1/T# Title.mp3
...
Artist/Album/Disc 2/T# Title.mp3
...

The one thing I do, though, is I start Disc 2's track numbers after Disc 1's so that if Disc 1 has 11 tracks, Disc 2 starts with Track 12.

I keep them like this:

Artist/Album/CD#_TOTALCD#/Track# - Title.mp3

For example:

C:\My Music\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\01_02\01 - The Revealing Science Of God.mp3
C:\My Music\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\01_02\02 - The Remembering.mp3
C:\My Music\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\02_02\01 - The Ancient.mp3
C:\My Music\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\02_02\02 - Ritual.mp3

I do it the way same way as All Media Guide does. I combine all of the tracks from a multi-CD album into the same folder. If the each CD contains 10 tracks, I renumber the tracks on the second CD to be 11-20.

Using Tag&Rename, I then download the tag information and cover art from the allmusic website. I know MC has this functionality, but AMG's database is much more comprehensive.

I do the same as aussie, so the before mentioned albums from Yes looks like following

D:\S-Z\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\01 - The Revealing Science of God.mp3
D:\S-Z\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\02 - The Remembering.mp3
D:\S-Z\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\03 - The Ancient'.mp3
D:\S-Z\Yes\Tales From Topographic Oceans\04 - Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil).mp3

I have all my music done like this:

\full albums\Artist - Album\Artist - Album - Track # - Title

:)

If it's a two cd album then I do it as: Album (cd1), Album (cd2) for the tags and physically like this:

\full albums\Artist - Album\CD1\Artist - Album - Track # - Title
\full albums\Artist - Album\CD2\Artist - Album - Track # - Title

For the record, I requested implementation of the Position in Media-Set tag, this feature will be looked into after the initial release tomorrow.  For right now, I keep albums with separate titles, but when/if PiM-S is implemented, I will use that instead.
