Set default zoom for certain tv channels and recordings?
« on: June 14, 2022, 06:26:51 pm »

I have a certain channel I watch, and record, that has a one pixel wide "defect" at the top of the tv screen that is very distracting to the eye. During playback, I can grab the remote and use "zoom" to click from 150% to 152%, and the "defect" gets hidden.

I already have tried Settings>Video>Crop Edges , no effect.
I already have tried Settings>Television>Display>Crop edges to remove visual noise....., no effect.

Is there some way to always zoom this channel to 152% when tuned to live tv?
Is there some way to always zoom recordings made on this channel to 152%?

How about Right-click -> Window -> Crop Edges?

It will be saved in the channel's PlaybackInfo tag, as part of AspectRatio property.  These properties will be transferred to recordings too.

Hmm, quite difficult to right click with a remote, but I managed to use remote desktop for testing. During playback, right click Crop Edges results in equivalent of 5% zoom, which is too much. So I set zoom to 152% and copied Playback Info, and pasted that to recording rules for these shows. We shall see if that works.

I don't watch live too often, but I pasted the same Playback Info into that channel's Tag and it doesn't have any effect on live tv. I guess it doesn't work on live tv?

Crop Edges definitely is saved for a channel.

Not sure if the amount of cropping is also saved.  If not saved, we just follow the global setting.  Try Options > Video > Crop Edges > Amount of edge cropping.  Experiment with different values.  The percentage may be relative, so to go from 150% to 152% may require a 1.3% cropping.  The closest match would be 1.25%.

Oh, I didn't understand that options > video > crop Edges controlled the right click > window > crop edges amount. I will play with that. Thank you!

Tried right click > window > crop edges on live tv, it works. But I when check Playback Info tag, nothing is there, it is blank just like all other channels. And if I press Stop and then play the channel again, it is not saving the cropping. I have to right click > window > crop edges again, every time I stop and play live tv.

Does this have to be set on the Server for it to save?

Ok, on the Server I set right click > window > crop edges on live tv. Now the playback info tag for the channel is changed, on server and client. But it only works properly on the Server. Can start/stop playback and crop edges is enabled. But playing on client, have to right click > window > crop edges each time start/stop playback (even though playback info tag shows it is cropping).

OK, some complication here.  The client is using a copy of the server's database, but it may not transfer the settings to playback properly.  I will have to play with it a  bit.

Quote
29.0.74 (7/14/2022)

29.0.71 (7/12/2022)
8. Changed: The entire PlaybackInfo tag, instead of just some of the properties, saved in a TV channel is transferred to TV recordings on the channel.

29.0.67 (6/30/2022)
4. NEW: Zooming and center shifting of video position during live TV playback will cause these properties to be saved for the TV channel so that the same will be applied the next time the channel is played.

I'm on Version 29.0.74
Yes, Zoom is saved for next playback of live Tv channel on Server, and is transferred to Client.
No, Zoom is NOT being saved into recordings made on that Tv channel.

Example:
Playback Info of Tv channel = (1:1)(11:ZoomPercent)(2:75)
Playback Info of Recorded Tv show on same channel = (1:1)(11:AspectRatio)(30:(1:4)(1:0)(1:0)(1:0)(1:1)(1:0))
