MC28 is auto tagging files with 'all genres' in genre field

im using v 28.0.106 (monterey 12.3.1). it froze while i was doing some tagging and after restart the entire db had the genre library field retagged with 'all genres'. i reverted to my last backup but while i was trying to figure out what the issue was, i noticed that the files were being tagged with 'all genres' again. i restarted a few times, and every time i did that, more files were retagged. not sure whats going on here or how i can stop this. any ideas? thanks.
