Control requests...
« on: March 03, 2003, 07:14:03 am »

For those (few) of use who are trying to make MC the premier HTPC playback program, total control of all the functions is highly desireable.

The mjextman control switches are a great step in the right direction--letting us choose playback zones, playlists, & various modes is fabulous!

However, I want MORE :)

Ideally, I'd like to have a full-featured Girder plugin that can pass Windows messaging paramters to (& from) MC. The plugin would be able to send every command that MC understands, from the basic (play, pause, stop, etc.) to the complex (sort ascending/descending on column #x, jump to visualization plugin "CrazyBeautiful, locate by "Album" "artist" "playlist", etc.) to the insane (control of DSP effects, and so on).

The two main problems I'm having now are that I have to jump through hoops in order to activate commands that are only available through toolbar button presses or that are buried deeply in the menu structure. Also, keyboard control of applications is not always the most reliable.

The program "ZoomPlayer" (http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/) is supposed to be a great model for external control options. It has commandline switches, a fully customizable keyboard interface, the ability to export most (if not all) of its commands into a Girder-readable files, & best of all--documented Windows messaging parameters that let the users do the work of integrating.

What do you think?

We intend making improvements in this area later this year.  It won't happen in this release.

More than a "few" have similar needs now, so stay tuned.

I'm down wit' that. I'm in this thing for the long haul :)

I've spent a bunch of time the past few weeks making my MJ8 setup usable from a remote, so I have a bunch of thoughts in my head.

After I moved to MC9 last night, I realized I have to redo a bunch of stuff (mainly my more advanced function work-arounds) because the menu structures have changed.

I look forward to the future!

Played today with Girder and remote control using the Media Jukebox9.gml Template published on the Girder Website.
Some basic commands are working with the remote control, but some commands (especially the MJ internals) are difficult to figure out.

Is there any more documentation about Media Center commands usable for remote control and Girder?

One thing I noticed: There is no way of getting out of "Playing Now" once you press "Stop".

Anybody there with more Girder/Remote Control experience?

What happened with the author of the Girder/MC gml file: Wee Happie Pixie? Haven't seen him posting for ages!
